According to Joe the Plumber, gun control is to blame for the Holocaust.
Ohio Congressional hopeful Samuel Wurzelbacher's latest campaign ad features a short narrative over footage of him shooting fruit and vegetables off a fence, while explaining how Germany's 1939 gun control laws paved the way for Germany's worst atrocities.
Wurzelbacher starts the ad off innocently enough, loading a shotgun while saying "In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were exterminated,"
Locked and loaded, Senator John McCain's former BFF turned his focus to Germany, while also focusing on some unlucky tomatoes and apples:
"In 1939, Germany established gun control," Wurzelbacher says while unloading shot after shot, "from 1939 to 1945, six million Jews and seven million others, unable to defend themselves, were exterminated."
After knocking off six "enemy" apples and tomatoes, he grins and says "I love America."
Having already beaten out South Dakota politician Jeff Barth and his rubber-chicken-shooting, ostrich-riding campaign ad, Wurzelbacher is now reaching out to Tea Party voters by invoking the second amendment in the video's description on YouTube:
"If you hunt or just like shooting guns, the 2nd Amendment will always be a good thing. History also tells us it's our last line of defense in the face of an out-of-control government. And killing fruits or vegetables is…what?"
In spite of the predictable outrage caused by Wurzelbacher's claims, his spokesperson Phil Christofanelli told Politicker "there's nothing offensive" about the ad.
"Joe is a student of history…there's nothing offensive about it, it's just historical fact," Christofanelli told Politicker, "It's a historical fact that Hitler implemented gun control before the Holocaust and that's just a fact that was pointed out in the video."
Christofanelli didn’t help his candidate any further when he blamed gun-control laws in the South for slavery:
“Well, blacks weren't allowed to own guns in the south, that's a historical fact as well," Christofanelli told Politicker, "it would seem that the argument would apply there as well."
