THINK ABOUT IT. the atlanta spirit secretly KNEW they gonna sell the hawks and trashers, so………….. WHO cares if they gave joe johnson that big fat contract, they off the hook as soon as the ink is dry on the bill of sale of the hawks, trashers and phillips arena. they signed joe to make it APPEAR they were trying to win and not lose face, but all along, they arent gonna be on the hook for a franchise ran into the ground because of that contract………….

his money tops out at 24 million or so dollars, and the ninja will be waay over the hill. you put his money with josh smith, horford, no wonder they CANT pay jamal crawford. this has GOT to be the worst if not the worst run franchise in sports. i mean, they couldnt give joe johnson to another team straight up with NOTHING in return. they could call a team and say:

hawks:

" hey, this the atlanta hawks, we wanna just GIVE you joe johnson, NOTHING in return"

other team:

"click"

hawks

"hello, hello, damn, they hung up"

I don't think they would make that type of commitment without a deal already in place to sell the team, and there is none. I think they signed Joe for stability. He was willing to re-sign at a time when the other free agents didn't want to sign with ATL because of the instability at the top. Too many people involved in the ownership, with parties suing, etc. He was the only top free agent willing to take a long term contract because he was already there...ATL wasn't going to lure any major outside free agent into a situation where you are unsure of the future of the organization.

trust me brah, they WILL unload this team.............

Joe's an ass. I didn't want to admit it because I really liked his game and thought at one time that he really was the leader/best player on the team. After he said he didn't care if the fans showed up (in the midst of the worst sweep in playoffs history) and then having 5 points in what could have been an elimination game the other night, I'm done with him.

He deserves to have his shots taken by Jamal. Between Josh showing incompetence and arguing calls rather than getting back on D, and Joe showing no emotions at all, I don't know what's worse.

I WISHED back in the day that there was some way we could have gotten NOAH from Chicago. He was/is the missing piece that we need. HORFORD and NOAH back together would be the solid frontcourt we have always lacked.

I've have heard two rumors regarding the Atlanta Hawks. One involving a deal where ATL gets a young player and a pick in return and one involving ATL getting a bad contract in return.

Indiana is way under the cap and is interested in offering Paul George, Lance Stephenson for Joe Johnson and Atlanta receiving the higher pick between the two teams in the 2012 draft. This is a bad deal for Atlanta but they would be able to get off of Johnson's contract.

Orlando is interested in trading Gilbert Arenas and Brandon Bass for Joe Johnson and Zaza Pachulia. This would save Atlanta a little more than 40 million over 6 years.

I seriously doubt you'll see any of these trades this summer. You're more likely to see J. Smith traded to Por for G. Oden. Atlanta knows that Horford is most effective at PF and think that Oden is worth an 8 million gamble. They will get off of Smith's contract. If Oden healthy he is a productive center that is capable of a double-double, plus he'll allow to Horford to play PF full-time. If he can't stay healthy, they are only on the hook for 8 mil for the 2011-12 season.
