Taras Young — who wrote the books “Nuclear War in the UK” and “Apocalypse Ready” — said he created the kit as tensions between Russia and the rest of the world continued to mount, the Sun reports.
“I tried to build a basic nuclear war survival kit using only bits and pieces I could order online from UK suppliers like eBay and Amazon,” Young captioned a YouTube video about the process.
“Please note — this is just a bit of fun! You almost certainly won’t survive a nuclear war — even with this kit.”
Young — who says he studied the UK’s preparedness for nuclear war during the Cold War — claims the country is “less prepared than it used to be.”
“This isn’t a real nuclear war ‘survival’ kit, but it might be useful in those circumstances,” Young said.
According to the nuclear author, the most important object to purchase is a metal entrenching tool that can be used to dig your way out of or into places or as a pickaxe.

The tool possesses a shovel end with a serrated edge as well as a compass.
Another essential item in Young’s waterproof box is a mirror with a whistle on the end that would allow you to signal passing aircraft.
Other must-haves include tent pegs, flint fire lighter, hurricane matches, a compass, a wire saw, safety pins, antihistamines, potassium iodide (to stop you from getting thyroid cancer during the fallout), electrolyte drink mix, water purification tablets, a mini water filtration system, emergency foil blankets, power cord, USB charging plug and cable, a knife and, if you can find one, a radiation meter.

Young said he came up with the idea of putting together the kit when he contracted COVID-19 and wanted to keep his mind occupied. He stressed that in the event of a nuclear war, no survival kit can truly save us.
