How much do you tip?

There seem to be a big misconception about how much is a fair tip...

Let's say that your bill is $35-$65 and the service was good.

Would you A) tip less than 10% B) tip 10% C) tip more than 10%

Do you think it's ok to tip low or not at all if you feel the service sucks. I personally tip anyway and just avoid the bad waitress/waiter to save face and avoid conflict. As a general rule I tip everyone big including the bar, cab drivers, pizza delivery, newspaper delivery, skycaps, shoeshine, etc...

If service is bad i leave the bear minimum tip. If its good i'll leave more and if its outstanding i'll leave a generous tip.

the last time this topic was covered on the main board it was multi pages. to answer your question if i am at a chain place (rarely if ever eat at those) i really dont expect good service so i tip as i would if i was at the finest establishments. I always tip well i just dont want to fall under the niggaz dont tip umbrella.

I used to tip according to the service I recieved. Poor service a lesser tip, the better the service the better the tip. That is no longer an option with some resturants. Tips are now automatically figured into your bill. So that low 10% you were kicking out will soon be no more.

i wonder how many people that tip poorly have ever had a job where they make the bulk of their money on tips.

$10 minimum unless the service was horrible *ahem* Friday's. I know what it's like to be a waiter and receiving inadequate tips for stellar service, so I give liberally to those who refill drinks more than 3 times, try to make conversation, and have a pleasant attitude.

In midtown they take tips anyway, so there's no point in giving extra.

Not to thread jack, but make sure if you tip on your debit/credit card , check your shit when you get home. When you write the tip make sure you circle it or draw lines at the ends ,so no one change what your wrote to a different number. I discovered this shit when I was getting takeout at a local Chili's. You dont even have to leave shit for takeout ,but I usually leave a dollar if they get my shit quick with no fuss. But this broad changed my dollar tip into a $7 tip. I shrugged it off the first time like maybe it was a mistake. Then it happen a second time, same shit different person. I called the Chili's and got that person fired and a free $50 gift certificate.

This happen to my manager, when he was at a expensive resturant. The bill was $100 dollars and he tip this bitch $30. She later upped the tip to $80. Needless to say she went to court because of that shit. He got that meal free and a $100 gift card. For $50 ,someone would take a chance of going to court.

I usually tip 15% if the service is good. Thank God LG phones have a tip calculator built into them.

They should receive $5.25 - $9.75 at 15%. Here in Cali they look for 18% and if I like the service I'll go as far as 20%.

I just do a flat 20% at that level unless they go above and beyond then I'll just throw what I like......

If it's under $5 , I'll give $1.
If it's under $10, I'll give $2
Delivery drivers get a flat $2 under $15
Carry out....depends how im feeling...if it's a mom and pop that's in my neighborhood, then i'll tip, but at chain.....it may be zero....again just depending on how i feel

Usually $5.00 to $7.00....me and a lady friend bill might be about
$45.00 on average. Solo I might still leave about a $5.00 tip It seems like waiters be taking my change and shit when they bring back my dollars there is no silver or copper sometime.....:hmm::smh:

I mean I usually give it to them anyway but some of them just take my shit
I don't know if this is common or not.:hmm:

I used to be a waitress so I know what it feels like to go out your way being courteous to people who are rude. I tip everyone that in that line of work. If i think you did a great job i'll tip big but if it was poor or average i'll tip ok'ish lol... yes i created a word.

Actually a very good point.

That's why I only tip in cash. I write CASH on the tip section of the receipt before signing.

I tip 20% always because of the ugly assumption that black women don't tip at all.

Well it's not an assumption since I've witnessed it over and over and over again.

Damn i always have that black people don't tip stereotype in the back of my mind. My boys never tip I'm always like. :smh:

My ex use to be waitress so I sympathize with the ladies. I always double the tax then add more how much depends on the quality of service.

Male waiters only get the bare minimum. :puke::angry:

I had that no change sh*t happen one time. I called the manager over and wrote a letter to the corporate office. If the service is good you get a tip, if you suck maybe not but you never just take my money.

If the tip is figured into the bill, Is it not itemised and can't you ask them to remove it and put the tip you feel the service deserved?
In the UK they have to tell you much what the tip part is and you can have it removed if your not happy with the service.

15% is the accepted norm at most places and thats what I go with unless you've done a really nice job in which case I tip generously and make a point to inform the manager of your quality service.

Not being funny but, why do you guys feel it's necessary to tip 15 to 20% but give God only ten (if that)?

I don't give god a dime. I don't think they exist enough for me to give them a %10.

But isn't %10 what's requested of the people?

Feel ya... I did it when I was in school back in the day.... I lived off the tips and not getting them when I put up with someone shit was the worst!

10% is what is in the Bible... I did not write it... Also, I not giving 15% of my income to ANY waiter, just 15% of the bill...
