How come no one calls Dwayne "the Rock' Johnson or Vin Diesel on passing??

Rock always said right up front that his dad is/was black. Never was shy about it. Vin I think early on played coy about his racial mix, but I think that was more about getting roles than anything else... I think one of his first films was an independent movie called multifacial, dealing with mixed race stuff.

Wait, so Hollywood has passed multiple whites into black roles, especially when it involves Egypt but now we're supposed to be mad when they let Black or those mixed with black in "white" roles...? lol No, I'm fine with them making up some ground with using mixed folks. That's almost literally half the battle lol.

I take issue with The Rock and how he plays both sides of the fence but atleast he is on record as embracing his black heritage and background. Vinn Diesel on the other hand, not so much. I remember very early interviews with him and he explicitly said he didn't want to address the matter or his ethnicity because it was only a distraction. Im talking early interviews post 'Saving Private Ryan' days.

Thank-U sir, I'm glad, i'm not the only one who remembers this shit!!!

It's about marketing a black male masculinity and physicality without using a black man. Hell, even Kratos' character in the video game God of War is voiced by a black actor.

I remember Vin's comments about not wanting to discuss his race, but he has never said anything derogatory about black folx. As far as The Rock goes, he is a wrestling hero. White men see him and want to be him. They aren't going to complain. Even if the studio hadn't taken the steps to make him look more caucasian for the role, they wouldn't have complained.

the Rock doesnt deny his ethiicity, he is just lucky enough to get roles where his race is a non-issue. Imo thats a good thing.

black actors have a long way to guy but its a step in the right direction when actors like the Rock, Will Smith, Denzel, Idris and Vin get casted based on their talent and not because the role was spefically for a black male

So instead of seeing it as a good sign that a Black man like the Rock is getting roles that normally would go to a White man, we're supposed to shit on him for taking the role because White folks lost it when Elba was cast as Heimdall? White racists are supposed to be our role models now?
Dude never says he's not Black. He's never tried one of those Tiger Woods-"cablanasian" tricks.

this

for those who haven't seen Vin's Multifacial short film. It's about an actor with his look going for roles that they can/can't/might pass for:

Thanks, nice to see my dude Mark still juggling SELF and hasn't lost it all to the soul-grinding machine that is Hollywood.

One drop rule is in full effect in this thread

I never knew either of them had a mixture of black in them until that story about the rock not dating bw came out last year

They both white boys with a little bit of colouring as far as I'm concerned

Does the OP think that the casting Director said "Hey Rock. I have a white role for a white man to play a white character named Hercules. If you are white, I'd like to cast you in that role. You are white right Rock ole buddy? Because if you aren't white, then I just can't give you this white role."

I stopped reading after the 1st sentence. EVERYONE considers Vin and Rock black. Any time you see a list about top "black" actors they're at the top. They consider themselves black. Some of the bullshit people write man...I just wonder what goes on through some of these guys mind.

Vin passes for white often, Rock is always a man of color. I've never seen Rock passing as European EVER even in Hercules he's a Demi-god not the same as the Greeks

A professor said to me whites love everything about blackness but they don't like black people. They want everything but the burden of blackness

The Rock has always said he is half black. Hell, when he started in the WWF, everyone knew who is father was. Rock was even in the Nation of Domination. They were a black militan act. Rock is just the Rock. His roles don't really need to define a race. That's part of the reason everyone loves him.

Now Vin Diesel....that fucker is black. Whites don't want to admit it, but look at his pictures as a kid. He is black.

Here is a message from the Rock and Vin.

no offense, but if you didn't know they were mixed, you're in the minority, at least of black people. Other than his skin color, everything about Vin says he's part black, and Rock... that has been a part of his story pretty much forever. I wasn't even into wrestling, but I remember seeing pictures of his dad before he got into acting:

Johnson is half black and half samoan two groups of color yet he almost ALWAYS plays white in films. Same with Diesel...
I doubt this to be true. I haven't seen most of his movies but the ones I have he wasn't playing white. In Gridiron Gang his mom was black. In Faster his mom was white but through dialogue they let you know he is biracial. Those shitty Fast & Furious movies his race is never mentioned and it wouldn't surprise me if it's like that in most of his movies.

so, since both men have publicly admitted that they are not white... are people complaining that sometimes they play roles that aren't stereotypically black?

Other than early days of career, these guys never sit with a casting director and discuss any of that, agent tells them scripts and roles available and who they may be required to work with or do favor for in role in exchange for future roles.

Basically
