Summary
This fascinating essay, written by King Hussein's grandfather King Abdullah, appeared in the United States six months before the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. In the article, King Abdullah disputes the mistaken view that Arab opposition to Zionism (and later the state of Israel) is because of longstanding religious or ethnic hatred. He notes that Jews and Muslims enjoyed a long history of peaceful coexistence in the Middle East, and that Jews have historically suffered far more at the hands of Christian Europe. Pointing to the tragedy of the holocaust that Jews suffered during World War II, the monarch asks why America and Europe are refusing to accept more than a token handful of Jewish immigrants and refugees. It is unfair, he argues, to make Palestine, which is innocent of anti-Semitism, pay for the crimes of Europe. King Abdullah also asks how Jews can claim a historic right to Palestine, when Arabs have been the overwhelming majority there for nearly 1300 uninterrupted years? The essay ends on an ominous note, warning of dire consequences if a peaceful solution cannot be found to protect the rights of the indigenous Arabs of Palestine.

I am no expert on the middle east but judging how americans don't say anything about the zionist jews I would venture to say I know more on this subject than most.

I know the zionist turned down a jewish homeland in uganda. It should be noted that the vast majority of jews are not or were not zionist.

I think only a handful of people really know why Jews are so disliked, His Majesty King Abdullah might be one of those people. The rest of the world can only go on the info fed to us and most of us are lead to believe Israel is an American ally, our first and last line of defense in the Middle East, I don't see how any essay written by a pro Arab King, can change our politics towards Israel because if Israel falls the rest of Western civilization will follow.

They were driven out of every country in the Middle East, they are viewed by Arabs as gypsies or roving thieves and mercenaries. They only found legitimacy when they made claims to what is now Israeli territory.

I could swear there are Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, Jordan and Syria and that they don't want them to leave the camps and live in those countries amongst their legal citizens.

Palestine is the transliteration of the word Philistine/Philistia. They are the tribe/group of seafarers who lived on the southwestern coastline of Israel since at least the time of the Exodus and maybe even during the time of Abraham. There is no know origin of these peoples but since they were sea going peoples they probably originated from one of the islands in the Mediterranean. My guess is the island of Thera before and/or after the eruption of Santorini which by the way erupted during the Hebrew's exodus out of Egypt.

The Romans changed the name of Israel (Judea) to Palestinia/Palestine in the 2nd century A.D. but it was being used even as early as the 1st century A.D. to name the country.

Even nomads had certain areas in which they roamed and called home. Actually the term refers to a people who have no set areas of residence, but they did have determined areas that they called their own and skirmishes/battles/wars would break out when one group would encroach upon another's land.

Have you seen those "refugee camps" now? Those camps are full of apartment buildings with electricity and running water and thousands of families waiting to back to the homes that Israel stole.

They aren't tents in the dirt and they don't want to stay in other countries- they want their own back.

The history of the Middle East is so confused the leaders of today probably don't know why they hate each other. There were the Crusades, The Ottaman Empire, there were times when Rome and Africa controlled the region, Christianity and Judaism are older than Islam. What we do know is the West won WWI and II, Israel was created to have some Western influence in the region, for some reason unbeknownst to most people Palestine was left out of the land grab and they have been passed from one Arab country to another every since, I don't see how Israel can be blamed for their plight when Arab nations won't even give them land, under the circumstances Israel has as much right to their present-day territory as anyone else plus they are the only real ally America has in the region, if they fall we have some real problems.

Right, I never said how they did or didn't live at the refugee camps except to mention that their sponsor countries keep them at the camps and don't want them becoming legal citizens, but no matter the structures they live in they are still crowded in those camps. They are held there and not assimilated into the countries that they have been moved to and/or holed up in.

My "reach" to the origins of the Palestinians as you call it is suggested by others much smarter, and more interested in the subject, than I am. I relayed what I knew to be a theory on their origins and failed to mention it as such. I'm not looking for a fight here ... just ading to the discussion is all.
 
Having read (several times) the Biblical prophesies relating to the "End Times" I have often wondered what causes the world to rise up against Jerusalem in war. Well, if the nuclear bomb comment of Nittie (Or any other WMD for that matter) are being seriously contemplated by those in power over there I think I understand how the world could justify attacking Israel. But I also wonder ... Is the Bible speaking about the "people" called Israel or some other down trodden people living in the "land" called Israel? Only time will tell.

LOL I feel you...My parents built with their own hands what is now a multimillion dollar Church in this city. Pops sit on every board in this town, he retired before he was 50 and put 4 kids thru school. If it wasn't for him pulling my coattails{which was for his amusment than anything else} I wouldn't have this million dollar home and everything else I got now. As for Biblical writings, maybe it's best not to take them literally, maybe it's best to look for metaphorical meaning, if viewed like that treating people how you want to be treated makes sense.

They aren't "held". 1.8 million people are living throughout Jordan, free for the most part. I think Palestinians have passport and travel issues because Israel controls their passport system or some shit like that. While they are not "assimilated" they intermarry, work, buy homes, run businesses, travel freely throughout the nation. An emphasis has to be placed on the fact that they don't want to be Jordanian, they want to return to their own land. Those who want to be elsewhere do so all the time.

I guess that means there isn't a Canada, USA, Mexico, Australia and so on using their logic. I guess they also don't read the Torah or they would see that their ancient ancestors fought against them and even hired them as mercenaries.

Several presidents talked about it but he is the only one to demand it as part of any serious peace plan. Israel even re-drew their borders to accomodate the plan, if Iran hadn't started this war and if things in Iraq went as planned, we could be looking at a democratic middle east now.
