Homeowners Insurance Claim Question

Need some advice on this one.

My mother's home has 3 leaks on the hot water line under the house (crawl space). We only discovered the leaks after her central air unit went out earlier this month and the heating/cooling company went under the house to check the ducts. Got the plumbing company out there and they gave her a quote of 15k lowest (initially 29k), ranch style home my father built in the 60s. Their issue is some areas of the line are impossible to get to, so they want to put new lines (hot and cold) and reroute everything for better access in the future.

The claim was denied by State Farm, due to corrosion indicated on the write by the plumbing company, even though they assured us they knew how to get insurance to pay. I called the Claims Adjuster directly and asked if there is anything that could be done. Pleading to her that Mom is 82 and after spending close to 8k in the same month for a new central air unit, things are tight for us. Nice chic out of the GA office, she sympathized with us and explained that because the plumbing company included corrosion in their write up, her hands were tied. Was able to work with plumbing company to just cap off the leaking lines, which would leave the main half of the house (master bedroom, laundry etc) without hot water. Price 2k to cap off.

Same day of quote on the entire plumbing, the restoration company they work with came out as well to access things. They never gave us an estimate, but said they'll reach out to the insurance company directly to submit it. I called the Adjuster back to ask, since we were able to stop the leak can we at least get the restoration part of the claim approved, to air out the crawlspace and prevent any mold. She looked, but didn't see anything submitted about restoration and told me to have them send it so I can submit it to her. Called company, they advised the can't send to me, but will send directly to State Farm.. whatever.

Today I get an email saying your $14,814.72 check has been mailed (addressed to solely my mother). This was the amount they submitted and my question is..

can we use the check do the most important part of this mission, which is getting the pipes fixed or will she run into problems with the insurance/resto company. I feel like ol girl was looking out by putting it solely in Moms name (usually its both client and company), but I don't want to call and ask her on a recorded line of course, she might not be able to say much. How you gon deny a claim to fix it but pay these mfs close to 15k to air it out. We had another company give us an estimate on the work and asked how bad the restoration is needed, they said it wouldn't need it.

Anyone with experience on this?

I'm going through and almost identical situation right now. Restoration people coming in the morning. Plumber coming in on Thursday. From what I understand, my insurance will pay for everything the water damaged and everything that will be damaged to fix the leak. But it will not pay for the plumbing work. (That's actually the cheapest part. It will cost the plumber $450 to fix the leak) . Walls, floors and slab has to be opened up to get to it though. Plumber sent me a quote for 5k for the access and pipe work. Insurance has already sent me that money. The rest of the work (about 30k worth of carpentry) will be billed by the restoration company directly to the insurance. End of story. If you have a question you want to ask the adjuster, why not just ask her in person? Didn't she have to come out and see the damage before making a determination? I'm sure she will have to come out and do a final inspection as well.

Nope, can't see her in person. Mother lives in South Carolina, adjuster in GA. Everything has been over the phone. I didn't know restoration would repair floors being ripped up to access the pipes. They didn't act like it when the plumbing company talked about it being the last option and that they wouldn't fix it.

Yeah, that was the first thing the plumber, the restoration guy and the adjuster said. The floor and walls would have to be torn out to access the slab where the leak is. There's no other way. Adjuster said she would not pay for a reroute which would be cheaper because its against policy. She would rather spend 3 times as much ripping up my house to fix the leak. If your adjuster isn't going to be an onsite adjuster then my guess is that you can do whatever you need to do with the money because no one is coming to inspect it anyway. I found that the restoration guy was the best source for answers. They deal with insurance people all the time. They know what you can and can't spend the money on. As long as you're spending it with them they don't care.

This is crazy ^^

The problem is, the restoration company isn't the one fixing the leaks.. the plumber however brought them to the house, so I guess they partner up on jobs. Just afraid, since the restoration ppl wrote up the quote, they will raise hell if the funds aren't going to them.

Change insurance companies after the repairs.
State Farm is by far, the worst insurance company out there.
My son in law just got fucked over on his water damaged truck.

Who did you call? The restoration people or the plumber? I called the plumber and he brought in the restoration people. But it seems like the restoration guys is the actual project manager and everything goes through him. The plumber will get the least amount of money.
