You know no matter how outlandish, no matter how bizarre I'm always thinking of ways you could monetize this site. If you wont allow mods to be elected by the forum, how about allowing members to pay to be a mod for a designated time. Here how it could work

100/year Mod with limited privileges and is assigned a forum to moderate

250/year Mod gets to choose forum and has ban privileges

500/ 3 years Mod with regular privileges- Able to modify threads, remove gay sigs, and ban privileges
