how come hip hop artist are not touring like some of these rock n roll, country or pop artist? i mean you have your major players like Jay-Z, Diddy, Snoop, 50 and Game that does their thing but i see more no name rock emo band doing big tours in theatre and big time rap artist doing clubs. :smh:
i know this board has its music experts so whats the deal?

the insurance cost an arm & a leg for a hip~hop tour,,, and many venues don't even want to host a hip~hop tour (due to the violence that used to take place at rap concerts during the 80's & 90's).

Im running with a production called "Same Spirit Different Movement outta Philly and Ohio " Dancing, Emceeing, Beatboxing, Turntablelism in a onstage production etc.
Only ones touring on a regular is underground artist in small venues. The ones who don't attract violence, more like personal tours.
You have to stay in tune with the local hip hop venues in your area and check their upcoming list. You'll see groups like "Blueprint" Jean Grae" "Das Efx"
"Dougie Fresh" "Murs" "Mr Lif" etc etc

Not many hip-hop artists can fill up a big venue anywhere in the country. Artists like Jay-Z, Snoop, and 50 can, but even good selling hip-hop artists aint gonna fill up big venues everywhere.

And if you look at the soundscans, there are more country, pop, and other "white music" goin 2 and 3 times platinum still. Other music genres do more to support their artists.

Real Talk. They fight too but its like little kids or something, they can fight and act like everything is ok 5 mins later. Black people fight and try to jump on a nigga head till they die. I tried to go to a party last year at my college and some niggas had already killed a nigga. Shot him THEN stomped him. Whats the purpose of that? I hate to say it but I dont even like being around big groups of black people somtimes cuz young niggas dont know how to act now.

Touring is essential if artists expect to make any kind of money. Why do you think the roots tour as much as they do?

Thats the bread an butter for them...

artists like Atmosphere as well, though im not a fan, dudes on the road 250+ days a year and is making more bread than some major label cats do..

Another factor is club/venue owners, its a huge risk for them booking hip-hop acts...some justified some not...

but for me an my camp, touring is how we will make our money, thats where our advance money from babygrande went to. We copped a tour bus an had that bitch wrapped an now we have means to get to shows.

i wish it was easier for us to do, but theres still a negative stigma assosciated with Hip-Hop...

absolutly right.....insurance for a coliseum was $1million dollars.....thats real :smh: :smh:

it covers alot more than just liability though

You may not be able to tour here that well, but a group with a profile as low as Little Brother or even a cat like Murs or Lif can run a European Tour from the UK through the Netherlands and all the eastern nations regularly.

And touring has gotten alot better in the past 5 years, since the Chronic Tour and that last Def Jam tour proved you could do it with little incident.

real talk..over seas money is insane...

groups like Jedi Mind tricks draw anywhere from 1 to 2 thousand at best here in the states, they go overseas an its like 5 to 10 thousand if not more...

heads overseas show alot more love than cats in the states!

Dert, what chu know about Mr. Lif?
That cat is INSANE on the mic!
On TOURING:
1. If you're on parole, you can't leave the state much less the country.
2. Rap acts are kinda boring in general. Most don't tour with live bands and the stage shows are wack. A lot of people hop on message boards and shit on the tour if its just 15 dudes walking back and forth and screaming at the same time. Real acts work for months on a show before hitting the road.
3. As has been stated, insurance. Still, if you're an act like Common or Kanye, that's not a factor. "Hood" rappers can't get booked becuase headz act a fool at the shows AND afterwards in the parking lots.
4. Territory. I've been saying this for years. The division of areas truly fucks the game up. East coast rappers can't go west because they won't sell tickets and vice versa. If you're big enough you can go anywhere but the smaller acts are assed out. Low pre-sale tickets will cause an act to cancel in a particular city.

Mr. Lif is pretty dope....he was super nice when he first came on the scene with triangular warfare" an his first few albums were on point..hes been kinda MIA lately

I got up on Lif the old fashion way. Wayyyyy back when Def Jux was gettin off the ground I copped that Cannibal Ox LP just of the strength of the label. That shit was ridiculous so I went to see them at Subterranean in Chicago when they toured (like 99 or 2000). Aesop was there and some dude named Mr. Lif showed up too. He rocked that shit hard as anybody so I copped Enter the Colussus off him after the show. Been a fan ever since. That last LP was a small disappointment but only because I Am Phantom was so phenomenal. Perceptionists was off the meter though!!!!!
