Forgotten Rebellion: Black Seminoles and the Largest Slave Revolt in U.S. History

I remember when I was young I had a teacher actually tell me that the Haitian revolution was "exaggerated":hmm:

There story has REALLY been hidden and would make a wonderful film.

The Black Seminoles were free blacks and fugitive slaves who forged a strategic alliance with Seminole Indians in Spanish Florida during the early 1800s. Their ancestors reached Florida through a variety of means, such as escape from American plantations, liberation by Spanish masters, and possibly escapes from early slave ships or exploring parties. While some individual Black Seminoles were fugitive slaves, as a community, they were known as maroons -- a term that describes free and quasi-free blacks who escaped to the wilderness in the New World to create their own societies. Maroon communities were found all over the New World, especially in Brazil and the Caribbean. The Black Seminoles were by far the most extensive maroon community in North America.

Yes,and also in New Orleans area before the haitian revolt where a slave servant named Charles and two african slaves lead a revolt against the french, for several days and nights.Murdering, men, women and children. The end result being that they fought but were later overtaken by outside forces and many retreated to the bayou's where many of the existing native indians where(maroons) and some even joined the britished army who had promised them their freedom for their help.

These small revolts, happened more than the history books tell you but were stomped out fast so the word wouldn't spread because slaves outnumbered whites,be it the french,spanards,englishman...ect,(roght estimate) 10-1.We had the upper-hand but the Haitian revolt was just on a greater scale, where they defended an Island, with witt's,man power and a willingness to die for freedom.I just wish now that would of killed off the people of espanola, which is now known as the dominican republic because they sorry sack of shit didn't have the galls to do anything against the Spanards besides be their slaves and claim them as their hero's(sick) but later turned their backs on the Haitians...

great info.

It just bugs me when I hear white people refer to our ancestors as simply "the slaves" as if that who they were. They were in bondage. Enslaved Africans. she talks about white, indian, seminole, mexicans, and "Slaves". Is slave a nationality or race? Start referring to our ancestors as Enslaved Africans and in that way you are also referring to to their En-slaver.

 Good info OP

*two cents*
