HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (WABC) -- Six men were arraigned Saturday in connection with a wild courtroom brawl in Hempstead, Long Island.

The pushing and shoving began inside the courtroom hallway Friday morning and then spilled outside.

Two court officers were injured in the melee and taken to the hospital.

It happened during the arraignment of Pedro Merchant.

The 20-year-old is accused of shooting 17-year-old Dante Quinones to death on a street in Hempstead last week.

Both families were in court Friday and apparently tempers flared.

Newsday reports that shortly after a judge remanded the suspect without bail, an outburst of support for him sparked the fighting. Two of those arrested also had to go to the hospital because they were injured during the brawl.

The six suspects have been charged with criminal contempt and riot

There wasn’t much order in this courthouse — and it only got worse outside the building.

A brawl broke out in a Long Island courthouse Friday as a 20-year-old man was arraigned on murder charges.

Family members of accused killer Pedro Merchant and those of the victim in the case, Dante Quinones, 17, began quarrelling with each other during Merchant’s arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead about 11 a.m., Nassau County Police said.

Court officers booted the disruptive family members out of the gallery and into the hallway, but the tension turned into a full-on throwdown between the two groups. The free-for-all spilled out onto Main St. and eventually came to involve close to 100 people, officials and witnesses said.

Eleven court officers were injured in quelling the madness, and six men were arrested on charges of rioting and criminal contempt.

Most of the court officers who were hurt suffered minor injuries, but one of the 11 was hospitalized, according to a Nassau County Police spokesman.
Shapeace Goodwine (from left), Terry Green and Aaron Munlin were also arrested in the free-for-all, and will have to return to the same courthouse Saturday for their own arraignments.

The six alleged brawlers — Rahim Robinson, 22, Aaron Munlin, 20, Jerry Merchant, 50, Louis Merchant, 51, Shapeace Goodwine, 22, and Terry Green, 28 — were all expected to be back in the same court Saturday for their own arraignments, officials said.

In the courtroom Friday, a judge ordered Merchant held without bail for allegedly shooting Quinones to death on a Hempstead street on Sept. 11.

The murder sparked outrage in the Long Island town, where residents held a rally against violence.

/\/\ corny as fuck, them lil' niggas be doiin this shit all day everyday ,pseudo drug dealers and fake tough guys. It's all good when it's not your family member getting murked or locked up. What kills me is that the family knew the lifeystyle Donte was living, they didn't care enough to raise the dude,he joined bloods,he was a dick and eventually some1 pulled his card. Now it's "waaaah,he was a good kid" B.S.
