Has Obama changed the standard of what black women look for in a man?

Hey SOL. My boys and I were talking about the "Obama effect" and what it means in terms of changing the definition of what is attractive to black women.

So ladies, my question is has Obama made the clean cut and articulate look be the new standard for black women in terms of what they think is "sexy"? Or do black women still prefer the thug look?

It's black men who need to "raise their standards" to emulate Obama, and then maybe black women would have more worthwhile options.

As usual, someone's putting the emphasis (blame) on the wrong gender.

You're both generalizing. The majority of Black women do not prefer thugs and luckily the majority of Black men are not thugs. These stereotypical archetypes are the exceptions, not the rule. Obama hasn't and should have to change women's expectations of men in general anymore than a successful attractive woman should men.

  at the sweeping generalization.

But seriously, I wish this were the case, then some of these cats out here might buy belts...and maybe a suit.

I kid, I kid! Black, white, light, dark, we are all wonderful shades of human.

As far as the look, dress, etc. C'mon. Anyway. I agree with Ming.

The, " Well dressed/educated VS Thug/street thing " is something BGOL just worries a lot about for some reason.

Lotta insecurities.

Exactly.

But I do understand the OP's point. There are actually people who are brainless followers who act according to the stereotype because that's all they know how to do. Hopefully these sheep will recognize that you don't have to live according to the stereotypes.

Clean cut works for me. I think that he may help to makes the worlds view of what black men can be and do.

Sorry, but I don't find Obama that attractive. But that doesn't mean I like the thugs- I don't. I especially hate it when I know a brother is intelligent and he dresses like doesn't have sense.
Obama hasn't changed anything, (or shouldn't), for the Black Female. If anything he should be proof to the thug that a Black Man can rock a suit and make money being LEGIT, rather than wearing the dirty clothes from the back of the closet trying to make enough just for the day.
