i did it after that article dropped on here some years back

I always keep my tv covered with a nice cloth when I am not watching it. Been doing that since the 80s. As for eavesdropping just a simple little fountain is enough white noise but if you want to be real super thorough they have white noise generators that are not very expensive

Sure, you can trust MS when they say that they will let you turn the camera off (and that they won't just turn it back on), or that they won't listen in using their microphone. Just like people trusted them when they said that they would never allow (or help) the govt to listen in on their skype users. And we all know how well MS kept that promise.

Allowing some corporation to put a camera and microphone in your living room, that you can neither turn off nor disconnect, is nuts. And it is even more nuts when that corporation has a track record of turning your personal information over to the govt, all the while lying to you about how they would never do such a thing.

Even if MS does not immediately give the govt access to the camera & microphone, no one believes that MS will not use that camera & microphone to collect as much data on you as they want, and will share your data with their affiliates and anyone else they chose - all for their own benefit (as will be vaguely alluded to somewhere in their 20,000 word Terms of Service agreement).
