Georges St-Pierre has added more intrigue to a potential showdown between he and Anderson Silva by claiming the Brazilian will be comfortably beaten by Chris Weidman later this year.

St-Pierre and Silva have long been linked to a super-fight, after ruling their respective welterweight and middleweight divisions for years. A showdown may finally happen in the next 12 months.

However, first to face Silva is middleweight up-and-comer Weidman, who stylistically appears to be a genuine examination for the champion.

St-Pierre has his own fight with Nick Diaz - which takes place on Saturday at UFC 158 - to think about, but he predicts Weidman will shock the world by stopping Silva when the pair meet at UFC 162 on July 6.

"My friend Chris Weidman, when I see him in training, I believe he's going to beat Anderson Silva," St-Pierre told Sportsnet. "I believe it's a bad matchup for Anderson Silva. It's very bad.

"Not only is he going to beat [him], I believe he's going to finish Anderson Silva. I believe it's not going to be too long, that fight. People will be shocked.

"Anderson Silva is smart because Chris Weidman, he comes back from an injury, a long layoff, so it's the time to fight him right now. It's going to be the best time to fight Chris Weidman right now, so Chris needs to be sure he needs to get very well-prepared for this fight." <--prepared excuse for after Silva destroys Weidman

It's one thing to say you respect both fighters, but think your boy had an edge to win vs you think your boy's gonna make light work of the most dominant MMA champion in the world, if not organized MMA history. Weidman is only 9-0, with 3 KOs, but he's going to finish Silva quickly, how? :dunno: GSP wasn't talking all that smack when he was talking about himself potentially facing Silva.

Almost every fighter has their day. Right now, Silva is still on top of his game, but he may catch one soon just because of age.
 
Chris is good but he's not Anderson Silva good :smh:

He's another wrestler Anderson can take care of.

True, but it won't be Weidman. Anderson Silva is on a level by himself right now. GSP isn't even P4P over Jones or Aldo IMO. He needs to put up or shut up when it comes to speaking greasy on Spider.
 
I'm pretty sure GSP lives a pretty clean life, so I doubt he smoked that oooweee before this interview. Maybe he bumped his head real hard though.

After watching that fight with Aldo and Edgar, I feel Aldo can be beat soon. Also is no Jones or Silva. I think this cat, Petis might beat him. Don't get me wrong, Also is a very good fighter but Edgar exposed holes in Aldo's game.

I think if Edgar put in just a little more effort into the fight he would have beaten him.

It wasn't a lack of effort that beat Edgar; Aldo was just better than him. I notice Aldo's not as explosive as he was before his motorcycle accident, but he's still winning decisively--unlike Edgar serial squeaking by wins and losses. But, to me, Condit exposed GSP, too. He looked like Quasimoto after that fight, even though he won. Now way he can take strikes like that from a more effective striker and get put to sleep. Enter: Johny Hendricks. Hendricks is not only a good wrestler, he's got a punch like a hand grenade. Until GSP cleans out his division, decisively, I have it Spider, Bones, Aldo, GSP on my P4P list (though, I concede Aldo has looked more vulnerable in his last couple of outings).

Here is the mistake most of these cacs are making.. They are assuming because Wiedman is more well rounded than Sonnen, and has better sub defense than Sonnen he will finish what Sonnen could not. They believe that all Sonnen needed was to defend the triangle and he'd be champ.

The problem with that logic is, they are ignoring the second fight with Sonnen. They act like that was a fluke or something..like Spider didn't defend three of his takedowns in the second round. In reality the first fight with Sonnen was the fluke.


Second thing...Wiedman being well rounded actually hurts him IMO...I hope he thinks he's well rounded enough that he tries to stand with Anderson just for a little while.. Sonnen knew better therefore he had some success.

Third thing...In the second fight AS started walking away from Sonnen and was still striking, which set-up the infamous Sonnen swing and miss. He can do that against anybody, a wrestler especially. No one else in MMA can knock you out backing away..It will be hard for Weidman to get the takedown If AS is backing up but still throwing lethal blows.

4th thing...Spider looks like he is perfecting that knee shot to the Solar plexus. He hit it against Sonnen then against Bonnar..


Weidman is good and not to be slept on, but not to the point these cacs are going on about him. But I'm glad they are hyping the hell out of him, so when Spider wins they can't go back and claim AS beat a bum..Fedor is the greatest..GSP is the goat..blah blah

How can they use a fight that Sonnen LOST to Silva as the blueprint to BEAT Silva? :dunno: Sonnen's TRT advantage and Silva's injured rib disadvantage still amounted to Sonnen taking more damage on top in Silva's guard than Silva took on the bottom. Then after 24+ minutes of lay 'n pray pillow punching, Sonnen got subbed. Game over. Second fight a healthy Silva mopped the floor with a less juiced up Sonnen. But, of all the chatter, the person who really needs to sit his ass down is Renzo Gracie. The same muthafucka who SPIT on an opponent is saying Anderson Silva isn't humble in the octagon???
