How could the hitter run if he didn't hit the ball?
If you drop the ball on a 3rd strike you need to complete the out by tagging or throwing to 1st base because you didn't catch the ball clean
If the catcher misses the ball on a third strike, he has to throw it to 1st base to complete the out.

The catcher dropped the swing and miss called strike , he was supposed to throw it to first base since he dropped it ,to beat the runner . But his dumb ass went out to celebrate with the pitcher and they lost because two runners came home while they was bullshitting . Moral of the story , Don't celebrate too soon .
