I'm in the middle of a crossroads.

Lately I have been thinking about making a return to school, thanks to the fact that I can't land a decent enough job (when I interview for some jobs, they say I'm OVERQUALIFIED and don't want to take a chance on me, aint that a bitch), and getting a foot in my industry requires connections more than anything else.

I graduated from college in 2003, with a degree in TV/Film Production (yea, bullshit major to many, but I was all about wanting to do what I enjoy, and I'm pretty damn good at video editing - just I don't have the connections to get me in)

I did alright at school, 3.25 GPA, which should have been higher but I entered college as a 17 year old idiot and put up a wonderful 2.7 GPA my first year. I made Dean's List my final two years of school.

I considered going back to school to continue on this path, possibly attending Brooklyn College's Television and Radio Production Management Graduate Division, but part of me doesn't want to face the same bullshit I am facing now.

So I thought about other prospective majors, things dealing from Analytical work, to Advisement, to Management. The thing is, I'm not really too sure exactly what's out there, but I am open for suggestions.

I also thought about Business School, but I am not sure if I qualify, being that since I've been out of school I spent much of my time working in an office setting as an assistant, not knowing if that's something that could help.

While this board has a lot of people who clown, there are also plenty who are very intelligent, and this is why I decided to post this here.

I know I wrote a lot, but I wanted to convey my situation as precisely as I can, and maybe someone else here might benefit from any feedback.

One thing I can't fuck with is computers. I won't touch that shit with a 10 foot pole, lol.

I'm gonna take a prep course for either the GRE or the GMAT, any advice I get here would be taken into consideration in addition to my own research on potential career paths, and let me know which test I need to prepare for. I decided on a prep course because I been out of school so long, I need the classroom environment to essentially kickstart me into academic mode.

Take an unpaid internship for as long as you can, while working a gig you hate to pay the bills. Prove your worth that way, after a while you would have increased your value big time, and they will come to you.

Man do what you love. If film editing is what you love do it all out. You can get into business school with (depending on the school) with three years of business experience but why do it if you love film.

Act gave some good advice on the intership that is always a good way to get your foot in the door. Going back to school would also be a good idea but this time when you go 1. Make sure the school is well known for film 2. Make sure the school has a good alumni network 3. Check the post graduation employment rates.

Graduate school should be used as a means to furthur your career so if you go into it day one with the mindstate that you are going to network and hustle to make sure you have a job when you graduate you will get the most out of it.

Also whenever someone tells you you are overqualified that is pure 100% bullshit. They are usually telling you that because 1. They don't want to pay you what you want to make or 2. They don't want to hire you for another reason and use that as an excuse.

When I recruit for employees I don't look for someone who is underqualified or just barely qualified I look for people who are over qualified.

Thanks for the info, I tried to get a few unpaid internships, but its hard to get one if you are not receiving school credit for it. But I will try and push for it again.

I'll definitely heed your advice and see what I can do.
