This Saturday, May 8th, I will be winging my way down to Santiago, Chile. I will be down there all next week.
My Best Friend Forever (A Mother's Day Reflection)
Mother's Day is this Sunday. And although I will be on the road on business all next week, I wanted to talk about the one person who has been by my side since day one.
My mother, Carolyn, had me when she was still in her twenties. She wasn't well off. she wasn't a celeberty. But she has been my rock through all of my thirty-six years on this crazy-ass planet. She was there when I suffered through childhood seizures, and countless stays in the hospital. She was there the whip my ass when I was fucking up, and was there to hug me and congratulate me when I was doing well.
It hasn't always been a smooth ride. We've had our fights. We've had our differences. But through it all, my mother has never left my side. Even when I joined the army, and found myself in harm's way, my mother always supported my choices. She may not have always agreed with them, but she always supported my decisions.
I've been given plenty of advice over the years. but one thing is golden and has never been more true: You only get one mother in your life. Love her, and cherish her while she is still here.
So while I reflect on my mother, to those that read this, heed those words in bold. You never know when God/Allah will call her home to join Him at his side.
I love you, Mom. Happy Mother's Day
Your son,
Troy
