Google may bring RCS to Android Message w/o Carrier Approval

What’s more interesting is an apparent promotional stress from Google to try and send text messages over WiFi, as well as other RCS-like features. It appears as if Google may just start building out RCS features into Android Messages without carrier support, since carriers aren’t exactly rushing to join their party. Code within the app talks about enabling an upgraded chat experience that is “powered by Google,” where you can send messages over WiFi, see when friends are typing, and share high-quality messages.

For those not familiar, RCS (Rich Communication Services) is super-powered text messaging, in a way, that does all of the stuff I just mentioned. Up until this point, carriers had to provide some of the support for using RCS in order for you to get access to those features in Android Messages. If this update is hinting at the future, Google may not be waiting around any longer and instead may be creating its own iMessage…finally.

Good. Other than their (Google) own devices, I believe it was Huawei that announced they would be using Messages as the default app.

I got Verizon Messages and it lets me send text over WiFi, I have it installed on my laptop/iPad too

Add one more tool to their arsenal to centrally collect all messaging between everyone, only helping the NSA.

As someone that works in Big Data. The information is there but it's hard to pull quality data from it. It can be done but it's not easy.

Kindly elaborate
Majority of the features that are in WhatsApp will soon be found in Messages. With WhatsApp you can only text other users with the app. With RCS, you can text anyone regardless of what app the other person is using. Check out Allo to get an idea.

With all due respect, you're not working in the NSA. Telling you they record every text, call, even this post on BGOL. They have no need to tap anyone's anything. They can easily pull up anything from anywhere at anytime. They have solved major crimes by pooling links of people and tracking your moves, and knowing your normal movements.

Just recently my boy told me how they tracked him down from a guy he knew in high school they were looking for who he hasn't spoken to in years. How they know he had any affiliation with him. When they want you, they will find you. There was a nationwide manhunt for dude, so they will slightly expose their ability to find someone without alarming the public. But what they can do should be very alarming to everyone. But many just won't care.

If it is anything like "Advanced Text Messaging" from ATT and a few other carriers, I will pass. I had it on my phone and lost countless text messages when I got a new phone. In some cases, I was only seeing 1 side of a conversation. I had to turn the "Advanced Text Messaging" off to fix this issue, but this didn't let me get the old messages back.

Helpful info here for those that are not familiar with RCS and what this means

I've been around tech since 1994. For people to think the US government is going to let technology flourish and not be able to keep track on things is preposterous. “Big Brother” is always watching. You got people out here thinking that those high-powered cameras on their devices are for selfies and taking nice pictures. Lol. Ok.

They are doing more than watching, they have taken the gloves off with overt surveillance and harassment with me.

Here is an example, I will be looking for something online, giving them enough time to locate it before me. As soon I click on the right page their asset will move around or cough. This will be done many times, just trying to disrupt you.

They have made using the internet not worth it. We need some entity patrolling this shit, you can't have criminals running around spying on people. Now I see why countries block their citizens from using it.
