going natural?

I can't go Natural.... my hair is wayyyy to thick and course! Matter of fact... I just put a perm back in my hair after a year and a half without one. Even with a perm my hair is still super thick, lolll.

I guess it all boils down to ones personal preference... I prefer the look of straight hair.

BiGirl be sitting 'round with her homies creating ways to tie shit to slavery.

"Did ya knuh dat massa used ta put a hot piece of metal on the butt of female slaves? And make dem stand above a bucket of water? And they would have to keep goin up and down into water? Droppin it like it's hot? That's from slave times."

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

so i recently cut my hair

i was feeling spontaneous...and i HATE it

now im feeling like this...if i cant get this cut right...its gonna take forever to grow back as long as it was...

maybe.....just maybe.....

i should chop it off and go natural!:dance::eek::dance::eek::dance:

honestly a big reason reason i dont want to is because I DO NOT WANT TO WEAR DREADS

and id rather not wear a mini afro either

where can i go to look at some options and read about the process

Go natural! I am probably one of the few Black men to prefer sisters to have natural hair styles. I love the feel of curly hair!

There are alot options available to you if you plan to go natural, but first it starts off with a positive mind-state. You do not have to chop it all off to go natural, you can do what we call in the natural world a "transition" where you grow out your hair to the desired length or for the desired amount of time, then cut off the remaining damaged or relaxed hair.

Even if you decide to go natural, you can still get your hair pressed or flat ironed, though I do not recommend it as it can be incredibly damaging to all hair types, but especially black hair. You can do roller sets, braid outs, twists, etc., pretty much the same thing you can do with relaxed hair, but again it is about your frame of mind, and being willing to learn your hair and what it likes. People will say things about your natural or relaxed hair, you have to be confident enough to pull off either... Just because hair is naturally thick or coarse doesn't mean relaxing is your only option...The beautiful thing about black hair is that it comes in all textures, shapes, and length which gives it alot of versatility.

thanks so much for the advice...im gonna check all this out:D

I'm in the process of going natural. I am growing my hair out. It's amazing how I can really see my curls now. Like I can pull my hair out, and its actual curls. I am so lazy though, lately I have been thinking of just saying fuck it and perming because I pretty much have a curly bush unless I pull it out which is never...lol. It takes a lot, I still have some permed ends in the front that I'm going to cut off on 1/1/09 if I decide to keep up with it.
I have so many products though...lol. I'm on a conditioning only regimen, and I wash my hair ever week. Every 3 weeks I do a deep conditioning with the masque crap that looks like seeds, its from Silk Elements or Natural Elements(can't remember, its in bathroom). I am excited about cutting my permed hair off but the lazy side of me wants to just perm it and say fuck it. I'm going to try to stick with it...

Congrats on your process! I think all of us who have made the transition from relaxed to natural have those moments...hopefully those new curls keep you motivated! I would keep in mind that you may find that the products that you are using now may not work when you are completely natural, and it will be a constant trial and error to find what works for you, sort of like shopping for the perfect pair of jeans.

I would also say that if you are transitioning you probably dont want to wear it out too much anyway because of the weakness of the line of demarcation (where relaxed meets natural), I hope you keep it up ...It will be well worth it in the end.

You can check out a site called Curlz- I hear that they have products that are especially useful for those who are transitioning. www.curls.biz. Good Luck!
