Key phrase: "cognitive dissidence"

Her eloquence, carriage and confidence ... too damn sexy!

dissonance.

I know she referred to "cognitive dissonance" (feeling of discomfort caused by holding two contradictory "feelings" and "beliefs" simultaneously)

The "key phrase" I was alluding to was "Cognitive dissidence" (a psychological term referring to a state of tension in which "beliefs," "feelings" and "actions" are incongruent or out of sync) which results from the former.

Guess it was a word-play fail? :dunno:

Interesting... but some of them are really racists because even though there has not been a black president in the states, there are plenty on TV/movies. There have been plenty of examples for people to wrap their minds around...

She's cute too

I met her before at a conference...she's amazing!

great post..I really which I could have taken a class with her...hell..I would take one now with her.

Hmmm...this gave me an idea.

I like how she put that. You really have to change the way people think about things. That brings you back to perception = reality. You gotta be able to see it for it to be. The question is how do you go about it?

perception = reality

Very good point.

The most fundamental theory of the universe (QFT), which essentially governs everything, asserts this.

The problem is that we have yet to master the act of observation. To eliminate all external "noise" and focus. Only then can you balance that equation.

She really hit the nail on the head with her explanation on how dissonance shapes perceptions. Once people overcome this view that a black male cannot handle the tasks associated with the presidency and their fears subside, it may be easier for Barack to run for a second term if he so chooses. Many more may welcome the idea of a minority running the country.

I think she really got people to think when she used the word "apple" as a heuristic to explain how the word, at a certain time, would never be associated with a brand of technology as well as a fruit, and why it is synonymous to the black man/presidency situation. Well played.

And Sean you are correct. Her eloquence, carriage and confidence are beyond sexy. However, sistas at that level tend to not attract brothas as brothas at a similar level, in many instances, opt for the whiteout. I've seen it happen too much to be coincidental. She might end up with a white guy if she isn't with one already.

^^^ @ high-lighted.

As much as I think that's a rather broad and generalizing statement, I have to agree that this happens to be the case often times. IMO, in the case of sistas at this "high level", this incompatibility with brothas at a "lower level" often stems from certain preconcieved notions and stereotypes - the so called "know it all", "over educated", "oppinoinated sistas".

Conversely, I know quite a few sistas, who fall under this category, that tell me all the time how hard it is to relate with brothas because they're turned off by the insecurities they sense from them.

Therein lies the paradox which I think can be simply resolved if the relationship preceeds from a level of mutual respect of the substance of what each person brings to relationship (together with comon shared interests and values, etc)

At the same time, I'll be the first to admit that it's frustrating as fuck to relate with an air-head dime-piece once ur dick goes soft ... :smh:

True. . . . but the whole point of what she was saying was to think of it not from a racist aspect and this is not unique to Caucasians; like she said it can be applied to many different examples.

Such as a physician. When I think of physician, the first thought is an old white man, if not someone white then someone Asian. Same thing. .
