George Zimmerman is suing NBC over its editing of a 911 tape, claiming that the network made him sound like a "racist and predatory villain."

On Thursday, Zimmerman filed a complaint alleging, “NBC News saw the death of Trayvon Martin not as a tragedy but as an opportunity to increase ratings, and so set about to create the myth that George Zimmerman was a racist and predatory villain.”

He is suing for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress, and seeks unspecified damages as well as a trial by jury. The news was announced on GZvsNBC.com, a website established by Zimmerman's legal representatives on their client's behalf.

Zimmerman shot and killed seventeen-year old Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teenager, in February. NBC News subsequently aired an edited version of Zimmerman's 911 call, which made it sound as if he had voluntarily told the operator that Martin was "black." He had actually been responding to the operator's question as to whether the "suspicious person" he was calling about was "black, white or Hispanic."

The controversial edit, which aired on "Today," roiled NBC's news division earlier this year. The network launched an internal investigation into the matter, and admitted that the edit was an "error." Two people were fired as a result, and a third staffer was let go over a different, unrelated edit.

 Man stop it... legally this will be dismissed pretrial. The press has so many affirmative defenses, and no one wins an emotional distress claim..

This dude is human garbage...

:lol::lol: His lawyers are just windmilling with the intentional infliction of emotional distress claim.

I think if Zimmerman expects to win this suit against NBC, he has to prove that the information broadcast caused harm to his character and he is now portrayed in a negative light, where prior to the broadcasting of the information he had a positive image. I think it will be hard for him to establish this because he is charged with killing a person; an unarmed minor. HIS OWN ACTIONS, have cast him in a bad light. Just broadcasting the basic facts formed opinions in the minds of ppl.

Plus, a lawsuit of this nature stirs everything up again and may make even more ppl turn against him. What will he do then, sue everybody?? I think this is a desperate attempt to raise money. :hmm:

This is a civil case, right? That means that NBC can pull all kinds of shit out to prove that he is a racist that they couldn't do in a criminal trial, including past comments that he and his family have made about blacks in the past. Or am I wrong?

I mean, do these claims have any merit?? Bro in your opinion does a well written summary judgment motion dead both of these claims?

I mean the intentional infliction of emotional distress??! Not only does he have to establish intent on NBCs behalf, but extreme and unreasonable emotional distress? And on the defamation side, where is the false statement?

I don't know man, if I'm NBC I'm filing sanctions with my summary judgment motion too.
