Not familiar enough with either Maidana or Cayo to pick a winner.
Picking Funeka to beat Guzman in a rematch. I don't know if Guzman is shot or not but Funeka's length and height was too much for him the first time and will be again.

It is starting off like ass. Juan came in overweight at 144 and the fight will be a no go if he weighs 150 or more at 7am this morning. Either way that shit is lame. Make weight!

Guzman has a history of this shit and I feel for Funeka. If Joan can't make the lower weights anymore, he should compete as a jr. welter or welterweight. It's not like there aren't good money fights in those classes. That's nigga's got character issue.

Good for Max Kellerman for talking about the rash of dudes not making weight.

Victor Cayo should have lost that fight and I was glad he did. Put your gotdamned hands up, boy!

lol, cayo deserved to lose. why do you say that? funny about the weight thing. people around here act like not making weight is cool. It is cheating in the sport of boxing. Plan and simple. I didn't either bother watching it because the fight wasn't fair from the getgo.

There are a few things I think need to change about boxing and one of them is guys fighting so far below their natural weight. Making the weigh in the day of the fight instead of a day or two before would cut out a lot of this shit.

If it happened once, that's a :smh: and move on but Guzman has now done this twice and probably knew he couldn't make the weight before he signed for the fight.

Cayo deserved to lose by keeping his hands at his waist the whole fight, even when Maidana was tapping his head. Just because Roy Jones could do it doesn't mean anyone else should try it.

the making weight is fine if you are professional about it.

Maidana and Cayo was a good fight, but I agree, a good defense is necessary in boxing period. Cayo was touching Maidana up and Maidana had an "oh shit" moment, but Cayo was getting touched with CLEAN shots. If Maidana wasn't willing to trade shots, Cayo would have won. But, if you got two boxers trading and only one is blocking, it is almost always clear who will win. Cayo has talent, but if he continues to fight like that he will have a very short career.

Exactly. Cayo's got something but he should add some fundamental or even rudimentary defense. Good offense isn't enough especially as a fighter moves up in quality of opposition.

Cayo lost his composure and got wild. His corner was screaming at him to defend himself, but he wanted to block Maidano's punches with his head. On to the next one...

I haven't seen Cayo fight before and I didn't have time to go youtube him to see what they got but I would assume that he didn't get wild.... he just fought his style. That whole fight he was taking shots, but it wasn't as often early in the fight because Maidana needed to adjust to Cayo's offense. I think Cayo beat his opponent with relentless offense just like Paul Williams without the reach, but including power. Even Maidana had a look in his eye in the 2nd or 3rd round like he didn't know what to do with the kid. Maidana gritted his teeth though, just ate/blocked shots and timed his own offense so he could get off when he could. Eventually Cayo had to deal with a live opponent, who didn't disappear under the barrage of his punches, AND THAT'S WHAT DID HIM IN.

I might be wrong though cause like I said I haven't seen his earlier shit but based on this fight alone that's what I saw.

You're not wrong, that's pretty much what happened. Cayo could have a bright future but he need to learn right now that he can't get by on raw talent. He needs to add some more dimensions to his game especially defense. Hopefully, he'll learn that and keep moving. One loss shouldn't derail him.
Maidana needs to be put in with Alexander and Bradley. He's got some steam behind him now and the fights should be entertaining. I don't think he could beat either but he'd be a tough out.

Maidana is a tough brawler and I think anyone who takes the cat for granted might get dropped but you are right Alexander and Bradley would eat his food.

Back to Funeka/Guzman, I want state... I hate two things about boxing; bad judges and manipulating the weight.

Funeka won the 1st fight but judges fucked him. The reality is that he shouldn't have had to redeem the bad judgment and results reminded me of Toney v. Peter except Peter became a different boxing in the rematch.

Taking a second look at both fights, I believe Guzman was/is the better fighter, but Bullshitting on his weight made him weak and/or slow in the first fight. Funeka beat a guy that wouldn't move out the way. Guzman looked like he couldn't get his body to do what his mind was telling it to do. Just look at the second fight... yes, Guzman looked stronger but he also looked more fluid and agile. He didn't just overpower Funeka, he out boxed him to a point were Funeka couldn't even touch him really.
