Fugees, ‘Fu-gee-la’, sampled from ‘Ooh la la la’ by Teena Marie

I never heard that song before, honestly. My parents didn't have any Teena Marie albums, and if it wasn't in a heavy rotation on the radio I probably missed it. My parents had a lot of albums but no Rick James, no Teena Marie. I don't know why

"Oh La La La" was a number one R&B hit for Teena Marie (in fact her ONLY number one), while "Fu-Gee-La" peaked at #13 and was in retrospect a poor first release from an otherwise landmark second album.

Not a criticism, but I'm a little confused on the thread theme :dunno:. Clarity, please?

:dunno: neither did mine..... but my sister did. & the radio in nyc played rick & teena all the time.
I thought that info was common knowledge.

I thought it was just me but then again I grew up on old school 70s and 80s R&B so maybe it's a generational thing. I was playing Patrice Rushen "Forget Me Nots" and this dude said "Hey that's Will Smith.". I'm like...really? But it is what it is.

Bro, there are oldies out there that have yet to know sung who sung the original? Fuck, there's a hot r&b classic, horribly sung by Slick Rick that was a Japanese song in the 40s! A Taste of Chocolate, I think. The shit happens.
