I believe the U.S. predicted China, Russia et.al, would divest from the dollar. Considering that, If you want to know U.S. foreign policy projections, study the Marines. The U.S.M.C. doesnt have tanks anymore. They're changing tactics and transforimg into litoral--i.e., sea to beach raiding units. That's because of Taiwan.

In the near future all Marine litoral battalions will use battle rifles with suppressors designed for intermediate to long range (beyond 500 meters) marksmanship. Moreover litoral battalion Maines are training for shallow water fighting--i.e., drowning opponents on beaches. Taiwan, or an island very near it, will be the first military engagement between the U.S. and China.

Why though? China is our biggest threat. Why change to light litoral infantry units without China in mind?

Because the land domain is owned by the Army. Large Scale Combat Operations (LSCO) require certain skills remain within the light wheel house.

The Marines will not be holding/taking land beyond the beach like moving up through Kuwait/Iraq or being a battle space owner like in Afghanistan (RC-South). We did that to not burn people out during steady state rotations in and out of county.

The Army (all components) will be running anytheater that we get into next, once the Navy gets us across and the Marines establishes a beachhead.

I just played out the scenario in my head, and all of the major cities in medium-size cities will get destroyed in both countries….50 to 100,000,000 dead and I’m being conservative with that number.

That’s boot/Joe speak. If you actually work at the joint/strategic level you will see all pieces are required for the US to have dominance.

There is a LOT the Army does/provides for the Marines to be effective. Much more the the used equipment the Marines were using since the end of Vietnam.

The overhaul the Corps is going through right now is the only extremely large one they’ve had and its needed because the equipment they were using was too old to really matter anymore. Do not forget that the Army was training to use that equipment….

The article you posted is exactly what this thread is about. GEN Berger (MC Commandant) has been getting blasted over Force Design 2030 & the article articulates why. a lot of this is opinion, but I will say that the Ukrainians have rewritten the way we view using drones. They are using them as tank killers in a way so efficient that the US and China are both paying attention.
