My opinion:
He took this job and then had a change of heart (probably got pressure from his white racist friends). So, he had this done himself. Insurance Fraud at its best. He backed out of this claiming he was receiving death threats. So, get your own shit torched now you can say, "See I told you they were trying to kill me." Now he can have it both ways: not being obligated to remove those symbols of racism and still being cool with his white clientele.
