Fordham University is confirming it received a letter from Donald Trump’s then-lawyer threatening legal action if Trump’s academic records became public.

Ex-Trump lawyer Michael Cohen has testified to Congress that Trump directed him to write letters warning his schools and the College Board not to disclose his grades or SAT scores.

Cohen has given the House Oversight and Reform Committee a copy of his letter to Fordham. It was dated May 2015, about a month before Trump started his presidential campaign.

Fordham says the letter from Trump’s lawyer was preceded by a phone call from a campaign staffer. Fordham says it’s bound by federal law barring the release of student records.

Trump attended the Roman Catholic university in New York City for two years. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.

Penn and the College Board declined to comment.

The irony here is that after Obama did release his birth certificate, Trump then demanded to see his school records from college. Trump is truly the living, breathing embodiment of hypocrisy.

I get what you're saying, but this plays more into showing how flawed a character he is. For one, as you noted, the school was never going to or planning to release his records, anyway. A threat was fundamentally unnecessary, but he saw fit to make one anyway. Either because that's who he is, or because he just failed to understand that's how the system worked.

Also, as noted by others, he was the first one demanding that other people release their records. He was straight up on Obama's back to release all sorts of unnecessary information, but he wants his info so deeply guarded? Displays his general pettiness, which again shows his flawed character.

The most important thing about Trump isn't that he's dirty or that ignorant. It's that his ego is so fragile that when it's threatened, he will lash out in senseless or even self destructive ways. You don't want a leader with that kind of mindset.

The point isn't this particular story... during the hearing this week, Cohen called Trump a thug and a bully who directed him to threaten people and offered this as 1 glaring example. Fordham just confirmed that it was true.
