Floyd Mayweather's Ex-GF Shantel Jackson Says She Recorded His Phone Calls For Her Safety

Floyd Mayweather’s ex-girlfriend Shantel Jackson is admitting she recorded phone calls with the fighter without him knowing, but says it was done to protect herself.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Jackson is responding to Mayweather’s lawsuit accusing her of illegally recording him during their relationship.
She admits recording Mayweather but says it was because she, “reasonably believed that she was obtaining evidence relating” to the crimes of extortion “and/or felonies involving violence against her and/or domestic violence.”
Jackson believes the law allowed her to record Mayweather because he was committing crimes. She says Mayweather’s own behavior and conduct were the catalyst for her taping him.
Jackson denies all allegations of wrongdoing in the suit. She is asking the judge to throw out his lawsuit and allow her case to move forward.
Back in 2014, Shantel Jackson – who dated Mayweather before starting her current relationship with Nelly – sued the fighter, accusing him of assault, battery, defamation and invasion of privacy (for allegedly releasing information about an abortion she had on his social media).
She also accuses him of stealing close to $3 million in jewelry from her following their breakup.
He has denied all allegations of wrongdoing.
Mayweather counter-sued Jackson accusing her of using his credit cards without permission and stealing his money.
Earlier this year, the fighter then filed new accusations against Jackson in the case. He claimed to have learned she illegally recorded during their relationship. He believed she recorded conversations in an attempt to keep dirt on him in case they broke up.
He stated, “Jackson intentionally used one or more recording devices to surreptitiously record conversations with Mayweather including telephonic conversations and conversations in the presence of one another without Mayweather's knowledge or consent.”
Mayweather added, "At least some of Jackson's surreptitious tapings were recorded while Mayweather and Jackson were engaged to be married but Jackson, unbeknownst to Mayweather, was attempting to construct a lawsuit against Mayweather should she decide she preferred its potential to a potential marriage."
He claimed that at various times, currently unknown to him, Jackson “tape-recorded their face-to-face communications under objectively confidential circumstances.”
Mayweather is seeking unspecified damages plus wants $5,000 each time she allegedly recorded him, along with punitive damages.
Both cases are ongoing.
