Floyd Mayweather Jr. has revealed he wishes to emulate Carl Froch and George Groves by selling out Wembley Stadium, dropping the biggest suggestion yet that the unbeaten American is ready to take on Amir Khan.
Pat Sheehan of The Sun (subscription required) revealed Mayweather's ambitions, reported via ESPN:
It's been a goal to come to the UK and put on a spectacular event and the plan is to do just that.
I love all my fans in the UK and I want to go there and give a good show at Wembley before I retire. I plan to come in the near future. I want to continue to make history with the mega events we put on.

Khan, who recently dispatched Luis Collazo on the undercard of Mayweather's win over Marcos Maidana, also believes Wembley would be the right venue for such a showdown.
Per ESPN:
I really want to bring this fight to the UK. I've fought all over the world and been top of bill but this would be so much bigger. They have done a fantastic job hyping Groves and Froch but this fight is on another level.
The Bolton-based brawler continued by saying, "Floyd is boxing. Britain would shut down. It would be like the World Cup final of boxing."

Wembley has now announced itself as a top-level boxing venue after 80,000 saw Froch knock Groves out in their much-hyped rematch. The record-breaking crowd, noted by Phil Barnett of The Independent, would likely be topped if Mayweather agreed to fight overseas.
Money's 46 fights have all taken place in the U.S., and all have resulted in victory, per BoxRec. While Khan has flown to places including Las Vegas and New York to help establish his name away from the United Kingdom, his potential opponent has never needed to escape his own nation to gain the tag of the world's best pound-for-pound fighter.
Dan Rafael, boxing writer for ESPN, indicated Mayweather's recent split from Golden Boy Promotions doesn't lend any weight to him facing long-term rival Manny Pacquiao. A fight with Khan is more likely after Mayweather "repeatedly said he would not do business with (Bob) Arum," Pacquiao's promoter:
From what I am told, Arum got financial help from HBO in closing the Pacquiao deal and then pledged loyalty to HBO on Pacquiao fights. The two boxers will keep fighting on different networks, and the same problems remain as far as how to split the money and various other issues. Bottom line: Still no fight.
Virgil Hunter, Khan's trainer, believes May 2015 would be the best time for Mayweather to fight the Brit. Per David Anderson of the Mirror:
I've got a gut feeling Mayweather won’t fight in September because of the cut he suffered against Maidana. I don't think he really wants to come back that quickly as it would be really close.
[...] I would like Amir to fight Mayweather in May. Personally, that would be my preference.

Should Mayweather vs. Khan take place at Wembley Stadium?

Khan would also be unlikely to fight in September due to Ramadan, which will interrupt his training schedule prior to the potential bout of his life.
The Khan-Mayweather story has rolled on for quite some time now. As Mayweather heads toward the end of his legendary career, one new challenge or massive payday could provide the motivation to lure him away from the U.S.
Wembley produced a stunning backdrop for Froch's win over Groves, filled with an almost deafening noise, suggesting it might be the right venue at the right time to see Pretty Boy outside of his comfort zone.

Until one of these comes from a reputable U.S.-based publication, I'm not buying. U.K. based papers have been saying this for like 4 years now.

This would probably be the first Floyd fight i wouldnt watch live. Amir is a fucking bum.

LOL Floyd peeped that audience over there. Man, if only Ricky Hatton wasn't a piece of shit by now. That English audience seems to really be picking up. Maybe it's been like this, but I never noticed. I actually dig their commentary, those two fat guys that host on the links we get.

Don't believe this story. This tabloid paper is known for making up stories and adding random journos to it just to sell papers.

Floyd ain't fighting in London

Agreed.

I think he genuinely wants to fight in London but Floyd is about his money and there is no way he's going to pay more taxes than he has to.

If he fights in London he not only will have to pay UK taxes but he'll still have to pay taxes here in the U.S.

Floyd doesn't even leave Las Vegas for that exact reason so I doubt he has changed his mind.

Agreed. I can't stand Khan. One of the most overhyped fighters of recent memory.

I'd rather see a Maidana, Cotto, or Alvarez rematch before a fight with him.

I'd also rather see Thurman, or Garcia or someone like that get the nod before Khan.:smh:

I tweeted Floyd and told him if Erislandy Lara wins against Canelo Alvarez on July 12th, he should give him a title fight.

Now that would be something to see. Fuck Amir Khan.
