Final Fantasy remake's 'classic mode' is not the original FF7 JRPG style we remember

Early reactions to Final Fantasy VII Remake are overwhelmingly positive, and now that everyone has gotten their hands on the demo released Monday, gamers have noticed a particular difficulty setting called "Classic Mode."

How exactly does Classic Mode adjust the FF7 Remake experience? Does it make combat anything like the original?

Square Enix first announced the existence of Classic Mode at 2019’s Tokyo Game Show. The mode was said to emulate that “Classic” turn-based gameplay of the original and many other Final Fantasy games of yesteryear.

WHAT IS FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE’S CLASSIC MODE?
In FF7 Remake, “Classic Mode” simplifies your combat experience by making dodging, blocking, moving, and performing normal melee automatic and in the control of the game's AI. You’re only left responsible for everything relating to the Command menu and using the Active Time functions.

Essentially, this means that you’re almost a backseat driver for the AI, in control of the more complex actions as the simple stuff becomes automatic. Despite the best intentions by Square Enix, Classic Mode makes no other attempts to emulate the original’s gameplay.

The setting is meant to more closely resemble the original in some fashion, which utilized an Active Time Battle system that's riffed on in the new system. The original was turn-based like many classic JRPGs, but your characters gradually recharged their capacity to take an action every round, putting pressure on the player to make quick decisions or otherwise take a lot of hits from the enemy. But rather than resemble the turn-based nature of the original, Classic Mode in Final Fantasy VII Remake instead makes things incredibly easy.

The FFVII Remake treats Classic Mode similar to but distinct from difficult settings like Easy or Normal. In the game's demo, Classic Mode cannot be selected independently from the difficulty setting, meaning that the mode is currently hard-locked to overlap with Easy mode, making for a very easy experience for players that's mostly automated.

"The player-controlled character will attack and defend automatically, allowing you to focus on executing commands," the in-game text reads. "The battle difficulty is the same as Easy."

ME:

If anyone is thinking about buying this game. I would wait for a used copy or whenever they drop the price. The game looks good but, this game so far goes by very fast. If im going by what is actually on this disk, this is probably broken up into 10 parts easy. When I loaded the game in the ps4 it only took 20 minutes. Usually loading a new game takes an hour or so.

My only apprehension about buying this is that it's only Midgar. All of the best shit happens after you leave. I'm afraid that they're wowing people with graphics and a new battle system to distract from the fact that theres not much there. I'm sure theres allot of fan service, probably fleshed out some characters story's, but Midgar wasn't even all of the first disk if I remember correctly. Are they gonna cram the rest of it into another game, or will every region have it's own game??? Have they even planned that far, or was this a money grab from there start to infuse some money into Squares books??? Demo was cool, but it just being the first part has me lukewarm.

I purchased it and I'm loving it, This shit goes hard af, The combat system is nice, the boss battles are epic and requires strategy or you'll get your ass handed to you on a platter. It goes more in depth around the events that happened in Midgar than the original did and it's just visually gorgeous. I have to give it to them because this remake has very much exceeded my expectations. I'm 40hrs in currently and is just now making it to the grand collapse. I would say that the purchase was worth it. This game pretty much covers the 1st disc of the original FF7 and they are already working on the 2nd so we'll probably be getting part 2 around the same time next year...hopefully.

is it worth me buying a ps4? i only have an xbox.

I wouldn't necessarily say a single game is worth buying a whole console, but this is a ps4 exclusive for now...and on that note the ps4 does have a lot great games and this one is another damn good addition to it. If you enjoyed the original FF7 then you will most definitely enjoy this one because it is a major upgrade. I assume that they are going to release this in 3 Episodes since this first entry covers Midgar and on the original FF7 it was a 3 disc game. I can't wait to see how they do the outter world and so on.

:smh:I finished the game yesterday morning. My only gripes with this game is , how you can only continue the game is through chapter selection. And this game was too short. I bought the damn deluxe edition and beat the shit, with a total time of 38 hours. And that time would have been lower, but I fell asleep a few times playing this game. I think im just going to wait until they put out part 2 before play this again. Other than that this game is solid. Some people feel square enix lied to the people. Because of how things is during the course and at the end of the game. I kind of see what their saying . But its their fucking game so..
