Yeah, I don't know the history behind it but there definite is a sizable Asian population in Latin America. If memory recalls, their Japanese language is ancient compared to Japan. In fact, they're still using phrases reminscient of the samurai days of Japan

I always knew about the Jamaican + Chinese / Trini + Chinese thing (as well as Indians). That's how you end up with so many Chin's and Ho's in the Carribbean.

But the Brazilian thing completely escaped me.

I'm not sold on this. I had to do research last year for my job and based on population and genetic markers the largest population of Japanese people outside of Japan were in Hawaii. Brazil is #2 or even #3 if I recall. Things can change though.
