The mobile anti-virus and anti-malware software produced by Norton discovered that the Facebook application for Android was secretly identifying users’ phone numbers and sending them to Facebook’s servers.

This news is especially interesting given Facebook’s role in the recently revealed National Security Agency (NSA) programs. Indeed, Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, reportedly met with Facebook executives to discuss the program.

Facebook also enjoys a cozy relationship with the intelligence community. The former chief security officer for Facebook left the internet giant for the NSA, and the company quite clearly works with government as the latest leaks have shown.

A student group in Europe has also filed a complaint against Facebook over the handling of private data and last year a report revealed that Facebook was spying on smartphone users’ text messages.

In this latest instance of the violation of user privacy, Facebook’s Android application leaked the user’s phone number even before logging in.

I knew this was happening...all those fucking updates for what...Nothing is safe...

I have been saying this for about 6months or more...NSA recruited developers from XDA...that forum has changed so much. I am willing to bet the ROMS they give all the root users been doing the same exact thing...

nothing is safe now..not even a damn smoke signal...a fucking drone will strike your ass for sending one:smh:

How is the facebook app allowed to read texts?

easy it gets into sys app, messaging and attaches to the MMS sending and receiving....

They have been playing around with it for a while now and they doing other shit as well....

:smh::smh::smh:
I Tried Long Ago To Delete That Damn App Off My Phone But It Wouldn't Let Me!!!

Man I rooted my old phone and took that shit off it and the phone worked better. My new Samsung Galaxy S4 didn't come with it installed and I refuse to install it. I just rooted my phone today and uninstalled all types of fugazy shit. Fuck spyware. Which phone do you have?

Man if I knew it was an app to delete built in apps I would of never tried to root this thing. Is there an app to reverse a failed root?

For those of you who have been trying to remove the app from your phone I suggest rooting your device if you have not already done so. Once your phone is rooted you can use the app Bloat Freezer 3.2 and either freeze or uninstall apps completely. I did it on my Samsung Galaxy S 4G and removed a few other apps as well and my phones battery life increased as well as it's speed and ability the run other apps more smoothly. I recommend everyone root their phones and get rid of a slew of fuckery apps that are spying on you as well as sapping your bandwidth and processor speed. The go to site is http://forum.xda-developers.com/. Chances are if you Bing or Google how to root your device will also see links leading back to XDA.

If you're on Android and you're scared, use CyanogenMod or Replicant.

If you're on Linux/Windows/OSX, use Tor Browser.
