Anonymous threatens to reveal identities of 1,000 KKK members, one year after cyber war with hate group

It’s hackers vs. haters — round two.

The amorphous hacker group Anonymous threatened the Ku Klux Klan Tuesday with an upcoming online coup, timed for the one-year anniversary of the last time Anonymous targeted the hate group.

In messages dropped on the ignotio message board Pastebin, Anonymous warned of “OPKKK Hoodsoff” — its plan to expose the identities of 1,000 Klan members.

“Ku Klux Klan, We never stopped watching you,” one missive said.

“We know who you are. We know the dangerous extent to which you will go to cover your asses...After closely observing so many of you for so very long, we feel confident that applying transparency to your organizational cells is the right, just, appropriate and only course of action. You are abhorrent. Criminal.”

A Pastebin message on Wednesday warned of an impending attack on the one-year anniversary of Anonymous' last campaign against the KKK.
A Twitter account for the Anonymous operation changed its bio to read, “We’re back,” and tweeted Wednesday: “The aim of this operation is nothing more than cyber warfare. #OpKKK is not violent.”

Other messages from Anonymous said it will also take down any KKK-related website.

The posts said the attacks will be timed for "the one year anniversary" of a similar cyber war.

Last November, after the KKK threatened to attack protesters in Ferguson, Mo., Anonymous fired back with its OpKKK campaign, taking over the hate group’s now-defunct Twitter account and other associated websites. It also exposed the identities of several hooded haters, forcing some to leave the Klan.

Anonymous tweeted promotions for the second wave of its cyber war against the KKK. The campaign last year led to the deactivation of the hate group's Twitter account.
“What’s sad about it is we lost some good members on account of their idle threats,” an unidentified Klan member said in a video about the cyber attack.

“It scared some people because of their families.”

The KKK, likely the oldest hate group in America, has up to 8,000 members operating in about 40 states, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
