....aka, William "The Refrigerator" Perry, now age 46. He, the behomoth lineman (somewhat uncommon for his times, but typical among today's linemen)cfarrying the ball--which should have been given to "sweetness"---for a touchdown against the overmatched and hapless New Enaland Patriots in Super Ball XX. The final score was 46-10.
According to FoxSports, Perry is in the hospital with a "chronic inflammation disorder of the pheripheral nerves." Some reports say that he'll recover, and some reports say he's near death. Hopefully, the prognosis will be favorable.
While 'Da Bears' ended their 1985 season on a note basked in a novelty play, at Walter Payton's expense, giving everybody a big laugh. After the guffaws ended, there lay a deeper and bigger problem. That being the unintended dissing of future HOF'er and Super Star running back, "sweetness". Being the 'class-act' and true pro, Payton nary uttered a word. But he had to hurt a little. After all he was exposed on a big stage, only to be ignored when he should have been highlighted. But like I said, the man was CLASS!
If he were alive today, he'd probably be first in line to inquire about the status and well-being of Perry. And would probably offer to help in some way or fashion.
I wonder how many other Bear teammates have called? Has Ditka called? Or the Bear front office? After all, the man did help them win a few games, including a championship.
