While i appreciate a city known for selling an $8 slice for offering a $1 slice, I can’t help but wonder about the quality of the ingredients in the slice.

I don't know if any of you make pizzas at home but the ingredients are pretty basic and inexpensive.

Water
Bread Flour
Yeast
Salt
Sugar
Oil
..are the ingredients for the dough.

Tomato paste
Water
Oil
And various Herbs and spices
...are the ingredients for the sauce.

Mozzarella is the most common cheese.

The toppings are the most expensive ingredient of a pizza. That is why they charge so much extra.

I have a Kitchen-aide stand mixer and with a 5 qt mixing bowl I can make enough dough for 5 to 6 medium sized pizzas. I usually make about 2 pies and freeze the extra dough.

Just from me making it at home, I calculate the cost of ingredients per slice just is around $0.40 to 0.50. I can imagine pizza places buy wholesale so the cost per slice is way lower.
