Dude kills his wife and then himself. If this took place over here, I wouldn't have so many questions. But when a nicca with a bright future kills his wife and then himself in a South American country? Especially a facist state like Veneuela, I have questions, I don't care how big a Chavez supporter this dude was. Why would he murder his wife, tell the staff, leave, and come back? Then again, dude has a history of wilin' out. Anyway, R.I.P Edwin Valero.![]()

mental instability can easily be hidden behind talent. Mike Tyson, Ike Ibeabuchi, etc, these Dude with issues are often ignore because they can make people a lot of money. I'm surprised situations like this aren't more common. Unfortunate...![]()
I hate to sound like I'm making light of this but Timothy Bradley has to be one pissed off boxer right now.
A little light but hey...
I just saw a guy say Mayweather and Mosley got off easy after he had heard Valero had killed his wife. Like Ed was a threat ot either of them.
And let me take back my RIP to this dude and send it to his wife. Wife-beaters and murderers gets no love from me. Dude is where he belongs. With Timothy Bradley's luck maybe Amir Khan will be next to go..
Some cats really need to actually watch boxing. And let me take back my RIP to this dude and send it to his wife. Wife-beaters and murderers gets no love from me. Dude is where he belongs. With Timothy Bradley's luck maybe Amir Khan will be next to go..

I feel you concerning your theory on Valero but it's never that cut and dry with mental illness. While in our reality what he did is fucked up, mental illness probably had his perception fucked up! It is definitely a shame that an innocent life was taken, to stoically define his situation as good for him is short sighted. I hope his 'support' cast of friends and advisors have a lot of sleepless nights though...![]()
I happen to know a few things about mental illness myself and I also happen to think that there is a bit of over-sensitivity in this country concerning it. Too many people getting declared mentally ill just because they do some crazy shit. I've done insane shit, I beat a crackhead with a bottle when I was about 16 for sending her son to my homies spot to buy for her. I'm far from mentally ill dude. A cousin of mine went on a violent binge not too long ago, kidnapped a prostitute, beat all hellfire out of her and pushed her out of a moving van while being chased by the cops. He's about as mentally ill as I am. Instead of questioning these peoples sanity, perhaps what we should be doing is looking inward and questioning this world we've created for ourselves. I happen to think that 80% of the world is insane for accepting most of what goes on around them without even a peep. Valero got what he deserved and even more fitting was the fact that he was his own executioner. Good riddance to homie.

now I don't believe a person should be let off from a punishment befitting their crime though. If a person is mental enough to kill then society is better off without them. Fuck that guilty by reason of insanity shit!
Of course this doesn't really pertain to boxing but I can see and agree with all points mentioned as far as mental illness. I do think it's throw out there recklessly but I also think it's legitimate in some cases. The wrestler Chris Benoit killed his wife, son and then himself over the course of a weekend. First response was "Damn. Fuck him". But when they did an autopsy, he had the brain of an 80 year old man at 40. Coincidentally, former wrestler/promoter Verne Gagne, who is in his 80s, killed a man he was in a nursing home with. So I think the shit is real is some cases but I'm not a fan of "To do that, he/she must have been crazy".
your right homie, fuck Valero and everyone that looks like him?!?! Sheeiit, judging from what you said, I for damn sure don't wanna piss you off!!!
Just kidding....but seriously though, anybody who would kill or more importantly kill themselves has to have some degree of mental illness. Just saying...

Nah I ain't on it like that, I just feel that his wifey is much more deserving of sympathy than him. If he was mentally ill, which....his actions do seem to point in that direction, then the people around him (managers, promoters, lawyers, friends and family) need to shoulder some of the responsibility for what's happened. now I don't believe a person should be let off from a punishment befitting their crime though. If a person is mental enough to kill then society is better off without them. Fuck that guilty by reason of insanity shit!

Damm, I didn't even know that shit and I definitely was one of those heads saying fuck Benoit. Wow, did he have some kind of physical condition or do they attribute it to drug or steroid use or some other shit? That's fucked up.

More on the Valero Murder/Suicide....
http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=27058
Venezuela - Relatives from both sides of the family, are speaking about the tragic events which took place over the last two days. Undefeated boxer Edwin Valero (27-0, 27KOs) was arrested early Sunday morning for the murder of his wife, Jennifer Carolina. Valero took his own life on Monday morning in a jail cell in Carabobo. The head of the CICPC (Office of Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations), Wilmer Flores, issued a statement that Valero hung himself using his own clothes. Valero still had vital signs when they cut him down but they couldn't save him.
Valero's wife was found dead in a hotel room in Valencia with three stab wounds. Valero made a confession to the murder shortly after it happened. He was taken, without incident, to a police station in Carabobo.
"Edwin Valero went down to hotel reception and made a confession that he killed his wife, so the hotel staff immediately called police, who later confirmed the death in the room," said the general director of the CICPC to BoxingScene.com on Sunday.
Kenya Finol, the cousin of the wife, says Valero made call after the wife had been killed, and claimed she was murdered by underworld thugs.
"When he called, he sounded like he was drugged. In a real quiet tone, he said Jennifer was dead in a hotel room in Valencia, and that she had been killed by some thugs who had been pursuing them," Kenya Finol said.
The story Valero gave to his wife's family, was the exact story Valero gave to police in Carabobo, according to a source who was present in the police station.
"I did not kill her. We were being pursued by some thugs and they killed her," Valero was quoted as saying by the source.
Valero would also tell police that he was very high on drugs and could not remember exactly what happened. He remembered finding his wife's body, but he couldn't remember much of anything else or how she was killed.
Jennifer Carolina's uncle, Evelio Finol, said Valero did not go crazy overnight. He described him as a very violent person who had the entire family living in fear. Nobody was willing to say anything against him because the fighter had political backing. More revealing was the entire family keeping quiet while Valero was forcing his wife to take drugs.
The uncle's story rings true when comparing the recent events. Valero had recently beaten his wife, causing multiple injuries that sent her to the hospital on March 27. The wife, along with family, sweeped the beating under the rug by telling police the injuires were caused a slip and fall accident on a flight of stairs. Because of their story, charges were dropped against Valero and he was released from police custody.
"[We never said anything because] we were threatened with death. We have to take the blame for what happened [for not speaking up earlier], but so do the authorities of this country and President Hugo Chávez. Because Valero was an athlete, he received preferential treatment, so they too are responsible for what happened," Evelio Finol said.
"Jennifer's death can not go unpunished. If he would have been sent to mental hospital, they would have said he wasn't crazy. He was keeping Jennifer on drugs since January when they lived in Caracas. He forced her to take them, or else he would have killed her, her children and her mother. During the ten years of marriage, she was always under threat of death."
Eloiza Vivas, the mother of Edwin Valero, blames the legal system of Venezuela. She says the system failed her son, who was very ill from over a decade of drug and alcohol abuse.
"The authorities of this country are responsible for everything. It's true that I have to take the blame for not saying anything, but Edwin was very ill. He was using drugs since age 18 and drank a lot," said Eloiza Vivas.
There are now conspiracy theories in Venezuela that Valero was so high from a combination of drugs and alcohol, that he may have mistakenly killed his wife during a extreme hallucination and once the high wore off and he began to realize what had happened, he took his own life.

Concussions, mostly. The last I heard, they think the steroids may have played a part but it's unlikely, no one rages for a weekend.
Chris Nowinski's foundation is doing some good work on the topic and even got the NFL on their side.
Also I must comment (since I haven't been around for ya'll discussions lately) that after watching the second episode of Mayweather/Mosley 24/7, Floyd seems very flat, his comedy routine is not up to par with the past 24/7's. His little jibes toward Shane seem really forced, but seriously, and tell me if it's just me, but he looked kinda slow(for Floyd) hittin the pads with Roger and doin his speedbag work.
, I think B-Hop put it best on ESPN radio a few weeks ago (after being informed that Floyd told the hosts of the show that he was better than Ali and Sugar Ray) when he said - and I'm paraphrasing here - "What?!?!? He said that?!?! Listen guys, Floyd couldn't carry Ray Robinson's jockstrap - all sweaty and nasty after Robinson trained in'em for a few hours - with pee pee stains on'em and all that!!!!"

Damn merce, that's a lot
You already know I'm not going for "Money" trying to clean up the sport. It started with him trying to fuck with Pacquiao and then it went from there. He knows he's got a good moral high ground for a change and he's not about to let it go.
I think he takes Shane seriously and it throws off his chit chat. He was red hot at first and made Shane look dumb and boring but the closer to the fight we get, the less energy he seems to spend on quips and verbal jabs.
He's not better than Ali or Robinson and I think he knows that but with Floyd, you have to listen to him completely and not get caught up in the barbershop buzz part of what he says. It sounded like classic puffery, something he says to himself to put pressure on himself. He sets a nearly impossible standard for himself and works hard to meet and exceed it. He doesn't really believe it but he says it to push himself. If he beats Mosley, I expect to see the emotional, humble Mayweather reappear at the end of the fight.
I don't think he will change his strategy at all. He expects to get hit and has been hit before, he still stays in control and in his shell. I love Richardson as a trainer and think he is the one trainer that could get Shane this win but if he's counting on that, this fight is already over. Floyd Mayweather is not going to get into a pitched battle with Shane Mosley. He will be selectively aggressive as he always is. Shane's best chance is to be aggressive but not reckless so that he scores punches but doesn't eat a lot of counters. Judges see and score those counters and know what to look for in a Mayweather fight.
Ray Leonard is wrong. Floyd beat the top welters while Shane was at junior middle and Cotto was at jr. welter. This is his first legit welterweight in some time though (neither Oscar, Hatton, or Marquez were real welters).
I look at it this way, even if Floyds "stand" on steroids is totally phony, it's still beneficial to the sport so he deserves a lil' credit for at least being the one to take the first step.
I see this being a very dangerous fight for Floyd, especially the closer we get to fight night. Shane is equal parts Jose Luis Castillo and Zab Judah and a better fighter than either. I think Floyd is definitely going to fight his fight, the one he always fights, as you said, he won't get into pitched battles with Shane. I still think everyone sees the Shane that fought Mayorga and I also think that is a mistake. Shane has been with Nazim for close to 2 years even if they've only had 1 fight together, Shane is in large part a different fighter with about 95% of his original speed and reflexes left about the same as Floyd who is also not as fast as he used to be.
I say this, if I am right and Floyd has lost even a slight step - I mean he looked faster than when he left against slow ass Marquez - but if those punches that he used to get out of the way of start to clip him, he's going to have to fight at some point regardless. Now Shane is just as fast as and an infinitely better fighter than Judah and won't wilt or fold or run out of gas. Floyd doesn't punch in combos anymore, he throws about 35-40 punches a round, one at a time, he's going to have to step that up. I don't see anywhere near a shutout masterful performance like all the Floyd people are saying. He's fighting the best fighter he's ever fought, there is a real danger of Floyd losing this match. With that said, I see Floyd eeking out a decision. I see the crowd mad as fuck, and him never fighting Pacman, who I truly believe that Floyd thinks can beat him. I would never count out Sugar Shane though, niccas would be surprised as shit if he won this fight but honestly I wouldn't be.
I agree with every single sentence except that one. I think he's more concerned about Mosley than Pacquiao.
I see a mad crowd too. Shane will be competitive until the final bell and aggressive offense is more visually appealing to the masses than intelligent defense and this fight will have millions of casual fans, even non-fans, watching. Unless it truly stinks as a fight, I expect a rematch no matter who wins, especially if does 2 million + buys.
As I've said, I think Pacman is still suspicious BUT, regardless of what Pac is on, if Floyd really thought he could beat him, he would've fought him. Where's the evidence that states that a fighter on some 'roids or ped's is a better fighter, if anything lets take a look at James Toney, Fernando Vargas and Shane Mosley. All had their worst performances on ped's. Floyd wasn't talking none of that shit before he came out of retirement. He came out of retirement specifically to get his crown back. Which he KNEW meant taking on Pacman. He took one look at the destruction of Miguel Cotto and started yelling 'roids and walked away from the fight over some blood tests. That ninja saw something that scared him. His name is money, he LOVES money and he walked away from his biggest payday ever over some blood tests. Had he challenged Shane Mosley before Pacquiao fought Cotto, we wouldn't be seeing Shane and Floyd taking any of these tests because it wouldn't have been an issue. He thought he was going to be fighting a smaller dude who would have trouble adjusting to welter like MArquez and Floyd would be abe to do whatever he wanted, easy money. When it became evident that Pac is a GENUINE welterweight and a very genuine threat, Floyd backed off quick. Where were the blood tests with Marquez? Trust me that Floyd believes Pac at least has a chance to beat him, maybe even more than Shane, Shane's a better fighter but Pac's style is a potential nightmare for Floyd. Roger knows it, Floyd Jr. knows it and Floyd Sr. who was barking the loudest about 'roids, knows it better than anyone.
This has the potential to turn into a series of fights. I see Floyd winning a highly disputed desicion that alot of people will think Shane won. Floyd'll be forced to rematch and having gotten slower in between, will go down like Roy Jones Jr. vs Tarver in the rematch. My prediction is within the next year and half, you will see Floyd get his first loss, disputed or not.
Toney won a heavyweight championship with PEDs in his system. Mosley won. Fernando lost but he was never great to begin with. He obviously thinks dude is cheating and refuses to fight him without some assurances. Toney's worst performance was a thumping at the hands of Roy Jones Jr., another known PED user. Shane's worst is a tie between the Forrest asskickings and the Wright asskicking. None of those when they were using PEDs.
Just as I thought Martinez would be a tough fight for Paul Williams and a loss to Kelly Pavlik, I don't see Floyd having too much trouble with Pacquaio and I haven't seen anything to say otherwise. He probably wants to fight Pac more than Shane and not just because of the bigger payday. The one guy Pac had consistent trouble was highly skilled, defensive counterpuncher. Floyd is that plus.
I do think the Cotto fight was the impetus that made him decide he had to have the random blood test, though.
Sorry Valero, but your suicide isn't as interesting as Mayweather-Mosley-Pacquiao.
When "Money" says he's the biggest name in boxing, can anyone say otherwise?
He'd knock out Marquez now because he outweighs him by 10 lbs.
May is really known as a volume puncher, he's a point scorer. By late in the fight, he's usually confounded and discouraged his opponent, so he doesn't need to do much more than pot shot them to death. Against Pacquiao, that would be enough. Not so much with Mosley. He's going to have to take some late rounds from Shane.
