EA Sports is underperforming and the trend may continue

Remember this pic? Speaking of disappearing players, that seems to be the trend in EA Sports titles. Deutsche Bank analyst Jeetil Patel points out that EA Sports titles are trending down in sales, with juggernaut Madden '08 selling 100,000 less copies this year (5% drop) and NCAA Football '08 seeing a 17% drop; furthermore, compared to previous years the average selling price declines of these games accelerated.

Patel says that the underperformance of EA Sports titles represent two major issues: That an exclusive sports franchise is diminishing year after year, and whether future iterations can compete in a competitive market with many AAA titles available. He gives EA a "SELL" rating as its industry leadership is challenged along with the quality of its titles. We humbly present as anecdotal evidence: When the guys at this blogger's ultra-blue-collar barber shop spend the last three visits complaining about the quality of Madden games, that's definitely a sign straight from the "key demographic."

I said it once and I'll say it again. EA Sports is a bunch of nazis and they deserve to go bankrupt for their bullshit!!!

this is horrible. EA always had the casual gamer market on lock, now mofoes that don't even really get in2 video games like that are overlooking EA's whack ass games...it's time to shut em down.

I liked FIGHT NIGHT but they had to close that studio down, the ONLY studio producing a good sports game for EA which was odd.. and I still like TIGER WOODS (although a tad on the racist side)..

Activision became king of the hill in 2007 as the number one US publisher. According to NPD data the company's current market share is 17.7%, a 7.2% increase over last year. Of course, Activision utilized the powers it has as a third-party publisher to sell Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the number one and three titles in sales respectively, across multiple platforms. This is the first time in the company's history that it reached the top spot.

Activision was certainly on a financial and critical acclaim rampage in 2007. COD4 got a spot on our Top 10 list and GHIII was the number one game for our significant others. As successful as last year was, it's now looking like Rock Band is poised to make GHIII yesterday's news, which could be troubling for Activision considering how financially successful the Guitar Hero series has been. Then again, this year we'll start seeing the armed and fully-operational Blizzavision (yeah ... still working on that name).

i say fuck EA let them die a slow horrible death

but i'm sure they have plenty up their sleeves..

they'll probably run the EA gaming division to the ground, rely on EA as a name for media purposes (i believe they had a plan to compete with espn on a real life sports world)

then their gaming division will probably operate under a different name free to fuck many many more games for us and our children's children for years to come

I agree 100 percent. Can't want for NFL 2k9 should be the game of the year. I went a long time without real football.
