Actor and former WWE champion Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is apparently in talks to join the cast of Terminator 5. However, most interesting is the fact that it is believed that Arnold Schwarzenegger will play a human character in a movie which will see Skynet attempting to kill Sarah Connor's parents.

Annapurna Films hold the rights to the Terminator franchise and Paramount recently brokered a deal with them to distribute the long talked about fifth instalment of the franchise. It now appears as if we're finally getting some news about the project, as Examiner reports that the screenplay is being written specifically with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in mind to play the villainous 'Terminator' in the movie. This perhaps shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, especially as the wrestler and actor has helped to make franchises like Fast & Furious and G.I. Joe huge commercial hits. The site also reveals the following about the planned direction of Terminator 5.

A source close to the project says one idea being considered for the film could throw fans of the Terminator franchise for a loop. According to the scenario outlined, T5 may be a prequel set in the days of Sarah Connor's parents, marking the first time terminators have been sent back in time to kill a character that existed before both John and Sarah Connor.

Incredibly, Schwarzenegger may not play the role of a machine in the next film, but a potentially heroic human figure in or close to the Connor family. One theory is that Schwarzenegger's remarkable ability to protect the Connor family in the 1940s or 1950s with antiquated weaponry by today's standards ultimately inspired the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness that was eventually sent to 1984 when Sarah Connor was first targeted for termination.

Well, I think it's fair to say that this actually sounds like a damn good premise for the movie and the thought of seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger facing off against Dwayne Johnson is a dream come true for most action movie fans.http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/JoshWildingNewsAndReviews/news/?a=81941

I like that they're not keeping with the post-apocalyptic setting. It just didn't work with Terminator Salvation. I don't know how many ways Skynet is gonna try to kill the Connors, but origination stories and prequels seem to be the in-thing this century. You get someone clever to flesh out the story and this could work.

Plot sounds horrific, they can do better than that shit.

I think it worked well,I was hoping for another movie set in the future.

Salvation was pretty much just another post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie. While there's probably more ground to mine there, it just didn't particularly feel like a Terminator film to me. What worked against it was that the original was essentially a well-done B movie where the bleak future clashed violently against a mundane present setting. That's what made it dymanic, to see an indestructable killing machine dropped into a period where the weapons of the time were useless.

Maybe they could set this one right after the blast but before the planet is flooded with machines where you could maybe make it a survior story with more human interaction between the action, because the last Terminator was missing the heart that made the first two classics.

salvation sucked but not because it was post apocalyptic, it jus had bad writing, cast, directing and the editing was terrible, the rock will make a perfect terminator and im glad Hollywood is writing roles specifically for him

So Skynet, which is smart and self learning finally realize that they should kill Sarah Connor's parents. FOH!! They should have made a movie with the story right after Terminator 3 right after Skynet first strike. Terminator Salvation sucked, but was a good post-apocalyptics just to far forward.

Sounds like bullshit to me. How someone in the 1950s gonna kill a terminator?

I don't think it should feel like the classic Terminator movies. I think those first 2 (more so the 1st one) are perfect and don't need to be replicated anymore. When I looked at the flashback sequences in the 1st film,I always wanted a whole storyline in that era. It was still bleak, still had indestructible killing machines, and most weapons were still useless. My Favorite scene is when the Terminator infiltrates the stronghold and starts merc'ing everything! I want more of that.

The rock already proved he would be a great terminator in faster. he acted just like Arnold in the first one.

What the fuck?!! Can we get some original franchises Hollywood?

You lazy bastards.

You can make that same argument for first Terminator movie. It's not like they were less overmatched in 1984 and had some advanced weapon that trumps 1950. They spent the first movie fighting with bullets and IED's and only killed the T-800 by crushing it in a mechanical press.

Agree with this. That's what Salvation was missing and why it didn't work for me. There was no real antagonist. What made the first two Terminator movies special was that there was a real sense of fear because the protagonists were not fighting on a level playing field against machines from the future.

There was none of that in Salvation. None of that feeling that John Connor was being stalked. None of that feeling that at any moment the wrong motherfucker could get too close to them and shit could pop off. You knew that Sam Worthington's character wasn't trying to do him in, so the movie relied on your knowledge of the other films to do the work the script should have done.

eh, sounds like they're writing a script around arnold's old ass. this "prequel" shit is limiting them with the rock's terminator abilities, he'd have to be a stripped down version of arnold's, which sucks

I agree with this. They need to leave Arnold out of the movie altogether. Fuck a prequel. Even if they go after the grandparents, still have Christian Bale as John Conner set in the post-apocalyptic time period. Skynet has rebuilt, the war is even bigger now. Bale follows the Rock back in time to stop the killing of the grandparents. Somehow make it work. Somehow do it without Arnold. I just feel they fucked off a golden opportunity with the last movie. It started well but the writers got lazy. They directors had a few scenes in mind that they shot well but the rest was disappointing. Again, T4, perfect setup with poor writing down the stretch.

...Christian Bale as John Conner...

That is one thing about the series that's always intrigued me, John Connor is played by a different actor in every movie. I want them to keep that tradition going, as stupid as it might sound.

But Arnold should always be in the movie, even if it is just a CGI cameo. After all, its always been about the terminator.

Not just that. They're gonna send a nigga into the 50's to kill a white family?

You had me spitting out my Corona with that line. CLASSIC.

Once I got my composure, I realized that it's a GREAT IDEA. 1950s weapons won't get it done, but if the cast numbers are large enough, then the idea might work. Imagine the Rock going back in time, attempting to kill the Connor grandparents, and the townspeople trying to lynch him. The dialog will be like a modern-day Django: "Why is everyone staring?"
"They ain't never seen a n***a kill this many white boys before."
They'll call the National Guard, but to no avail. A showdown near Selma occurs, and it's witnessed by future Black leaders. Watching this android Negro kick so much Caucasian ass inspires them to boycott their ill treatment at the hands of White America, leading to a future revolution....

I thought Salvation was good but it wasnt a Terminator movie though..

c/s

I seriously we will have some any time soon...

Most movies are adaptions from books/comics,remakes, and sequel/prequel from established franchises...

I dont mind sequels, but its rare that the second movie is better than the first one...

Not just that. They're gonna send a nigga into the 50's to kill a white family?

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

This shit sounds awful.

And how does this guy keep getting these roles!? He's an awful actor.

I ask the same question.....:hmm:

don't worry it will be more outrageous when they make t6 set in da wild west and channing tatum is a terminator sent to go kill the great great parents of sarah o connor..u will find out dat the connors are really native americans dat had premonitions of da future thanx to da sky gods..tatum will come back as a cowboy with a bounty on the chiefs head..u'll find a cave with hieroglyphics about robotic cacs from da future who will try to end da human race..it will be up to da great chief and his tribe to stop evil cac man:hmm::hmm: it sounds so stupid.. dat hollyweird would def invest 200 mill into dat project

i dont like da sound of this. sarah connor's grandparents? WTF??? how many more Terminator movies are they gonna make? Just end da shit already :smh:

Two major things I see going against this film

1) Arnold is in his mid 60's and worst he physically he looks his age. If it was a case that he looked 40 something then it could be plausible or believable that as an action hero he could be a formidable opponent against any villain (aka the new terminator).

2) With the premise they have in mind, it's more of an origin type story. In any movie franchise where a prequel is gonna be made as an origin to explain how shit came about to be in previous films, it only works if as an audience member you don't know how the story is gonna end or conclude. Only if the script is very good can this scenario work.

Yours Truly.....Professor
