DUNKIN' RODENTS! Dept. of Health closes Manhattan Dunkin' Donuts after SHOCKING video captures crew of RATS scurrying through food — SEE IT
A Bronx resident said he saw the rats nibbling on croissants and donuts at the Garment District eatery. 'Toward the end, there were seven to nine joining in the festivities!' he said. The store has been closed with the health department citing 'severe rodent infestation,' and 'inadequate hand washing facilities and food not being protected from contamination.'

The footage may be unnerving to some, but New Yorkers' nerves are made of steel, right? It's pretty much a given that everything we eat in this city has to first pass through the gentle hands of our ubiquitous rats. Is one measly rat enough to scuttle the Garment District's love of Muchkins™ and Jelly Sticks™? We ventured to the Dunkin' in question at 37th Street and 8th Avenue to find out:

It's worth mentioning that the location currently displays an "A" grade from the Health Department, but that rating may have nothing to do with real onsite cleanliness. In response, Dunkin' Donuts issued a statement, which can be found here (scroll down).
This particular Dunkin' Donuts is undoubtedly only one of many vermin-infested restaurants across the city. The question, then, is who's to blame when rats run wild? The franchise owners? Corporate bigwigs? The Health Department? Hungry straphangers? De Blasio? If we truly are living in A Tale of Two Cities then things could get worse before they get better. The rats came out as the people's revolution raged.
