It takes a really long time to evict someone who has a claim to your property, been there X amount of days, has a utility in their name, gets mail there, whatever.

Most of these responses sound like emotional, keyboard warrior nonsense. If you own valuable real estate, the last thing you’d do is follow their advice. The guy probably did the smart thing by paying them off and set up safeguards to avoid being taken advantage of again.
