CCTV video shows flood victim drive to his death into high water
City officials released a video on Wednesday afternoon showing a young woman driving around a highway barrier and into high water.
The incident occurred Monday in the early-morning hours at the eastbound Westpark Tollway exit to Post Oak. The body of 25-year-old Claudia Melgar was found on Tuesday.
The Harris County Toll Road Authority released the roadway camera footage in compliance with a Public Information Request. The footage shows Melgar’s vehicle entering the high water and becoming fully submerged.
Melgar avoided a tow truck driver blocking the Westpark Tollway exit ramp onto South Loop 610 at 6 a.m. A dashcam video at the scene shows a toll road worker chasing the SUV as it passes the barrier. Investigators estimate that Melgar drove into about 17 feet of water.

Big SUV/Pickup drivers sometimes don't realize their vulnerability. Tragic shit though. I bet panic set in when you could see the light in the back of the truck. All that cold water too, imagine someone who couldn't swim in that situation. I would have broke my whole arm/elbow/leg/or whatever smashing that window to get out. Then again, I wouldn't have drove into that shit in the first place. Horrible way to go.

lots of chances to get out of the car. I remember when NJ gets flood. I NEVER go through a any water if i don't know what the road used to look like before. There's usually a measuring stick in NJ too.

I could be wrong but the pressure on the doors from the water could've made the doors very hard to open. Also she had a flashlight that might not've been heavy enough to break the windows.

Thats why I never forget that 60 min special of how to get out a car thats sinking in water. Open those windows ASAP!!!

Yeah man I never watched a video on that but I do know you should let your windows down before your vehicle becomes submerged like that.
Your car already has those.
Use the head rest on the driver/passenger seat. You can adjust the height of the head rest, but if you hold the button down and pull all the way up the head rest will come out and you can use that metal part to break the window.

The car door has to be fully submerged before she could've opened it successful...learned than in 3rd grade science lab.

I did some research, to open the doors the car will need to be filled with water. Meaning, windows will need to be down or broken. Looks like all windows were rolled up in her car.

I just watched the elapsed timer.... there was plenty of time for her to get out that vehicle. She first touched water @ 6:10:50.... 20 min later?
This is a case of people holding on to the security of their vehicle.... even to her detriment. She shoulda let that truck go. Get out, get safe, and pay the deductible.

She would've had to hold her breath for while and be prepared to hold her breath. She didn't have a plan and was waiting to get rescued.
