You work by the World Trade, you must be shopping by that ultra expensive Whole Foods over there
BJs and Costco will not do it, especially if you are single -- it is just too much volume. It may be good for some dry, long-storage goods, but then again, who has the space for 10 tons of cereal or a case of canned vegetables?
For coupons, just type in "supermarket coupons" in Google and you'll get a ton of sites with printable coupons - but being in NY (and especially in some 'hoods) you may have an issue explaining to the store to accept the coupon. Also check out the website for the supermarket itself.
In terms of meat, I find that Waldbaums has the best sales, often they have 50% off (buy 1 get 1 free) if you have the store card. The meat is family sized packages, but get some freezer bags and split the meat into small portions that you would have for a meal and freeze.
Just experiment with cooking, check out recipes online, and invest in a Crock-Pot (food practically cooks itself over the course of the day) and a George Foreman type grill (if you're really afraid of the stove). However, get you cooking skills up (it doesn't take much), nothing turns on a woman more than a man who can cook a meal
