yes. i believe they landed because they left lunar retroreflectors on the moon. i think the americans left 3 and russians left two. the russians landed rovers on the moon but no astronauts.
the mcdonald observatory in texas has a laser you can bounce off them. seen that in person. there is also another one in grasse, france that can bounce lasers off the reflector array. note that these two agancies are not government related.
the arrays are used to measure the precise distance of the moon from the earth. in case you didn't know, the moon is moving away from the earth - and at some point probably float away.
