Do/Did you take off for Juneteenth, and if so, why?

I find it insulting that it's not an automatic holiday, given it's federal, so I applied one of my flex holidays. It's safe to say I won't ever be working that day again. Reasoning: it's one of the few holidays dedicated to Af. Americans (MLK is the only other I can think of) and I'm simply unwilling to work on that day going forward. If we can honor Thanksgiving and the 4th of July, I'm certainly going to do the same for a holiday dedicated to us.

Your thoughts?

I've been taking the day off for many years (personal time) as it's also my Son's birthday- but I've always told the whyte folks @ my job that I was taking the day to celebrate juneteenth. I'm in a union job and we will have to work it until our next negotiated contract, but I will continue to take the day off until it becomes a recognized holiday by my company (should be in 2025)
