Netflix proved it works to get more subs already

Disney+ will begin cracking down on password-sharing in 2024 in an effort to drive monetization, Disney CEO Bob Iger said on the company’s third-quarter earnings call on Wednesday.

“We are actively exploring ways to address account sharing and the best options for paying subscribers to share their accounts with friends and family,” he said. “Later this year, we will begin to update our subscriber agreements with additional terms and our sharing policies. And we will roll out tactics to drive monetization sometime in 2024.”

The move comes after Netflix’s password-sharing cracking resulted in a surge in paid subscribers this year.

“We already have the technical capability to monitor much of this, and I’m not gonna give you a specific number except to say it’s significant,” Iger said in response to a question from an analyst, while noting it’s possible that the password-sharing crackdown won’t be completed in 2024. “We certainly have established this as a real priority, and we actually think that there’s an opportunity here to help us grow our business.”

Iger counted Disney+ as one of Disney’s three main priorities that will drive the company’s growth.

“Moving forward, I believe three businesses will drive the greatest growth and value creation over the next five years,” he said. “They are our film studios, our parks business, and streaming, all of which are inextricably linked to our brands and franchises.”

Disney+ lost 300,000 subscribers in the U.S. and Canada during the quarter for a total of 46 million globally, but domestic Disney+ average monthly revenue per paid subscriber increased from $7.14 to $7.31 due to higher per-subscriber advertising revenue.

Disney+ announced an ad-supported offering will be available in select markets across Europe and in Canada beginning Nov. 1. As pricing is updated for various plans later this year, subscribers in the U.S. will have access to a new ad-free bundled subscription plan starting Sept. 6, featuring Disney+ Premium and Hulu (No Ads) for $19.99/month.

I only buy these streaming services around black Friday when they have an annual price for 50% off.

these prices are getting absurd
They said in the article there is no plan for a 12 month annual fee/discount .. only doing monthly which mean the price could change again aka go up

A $6 jump in less than a yr crazy.. at least Netflix try to be fake slick about it and raise the price by a $1 or $2 each yr.. Disney said fuck waiting for 3 yrs for a $6 jump we want more money now

Eventually people will go let’s utilize them free99 sites for content
They losing about $4 billion a year on this shit. Ain't enough price increases the rat can do to save this shit. Iger looks like he wants to take Disney to the grave with him. Think about it.They just blew over $200 million on secret invasion for Disney+. The earnings call today was :roflmao2:

I know you're a businessman. If you could come up with a way for Disney+ to make money, you'll be rich as fuck.

Wait secret invasion cost $200 million dollars lmaooo.. somebody definitely was pocketing extra bread

Companies worship the dollar and are anti-consumer and then get upset when thousands of pirate ships hit the high seas. This news just set more out there.

Recently it was stated that 87% of classic video games are out of print and critically endangered, who did you think is filling that void?

it says Disney+ and ESPN+ still have the annual plan, just Hulu that doesn't.

I predict once Black Friday comes around, there still be some crazy discounts. I got in on the Hulu deal last year for $1.99 for 12 months which will expire in October. :dunno:

My family member and I rotate every Black Friday with the Hulu discount

I saw a headline somewhere saying he got $20M for it

I hope it's true

The fact that netflix added 3X as many subs as expected after stopping password sharing tells me that people are not as sophisticated as you might think. The vast, vast majority of people dont know how/know that its possible to get 99.9% of content for free.

Minus whale raise the price I charge for access to my Plex server

Netflix IT dept is just fuckin stupid.
they can easily stop the shit if they setup MFA for Netflix authentication.............and have that shit timeout after about like 30 seconds.
And if the location from where the user accepts the push notification, doesn't coincide to the location of the device that is trying to access Netflix, then they can just deny the login.

Oh I know Sam got paid.. his career and the fact he’s the main character plus been with the whole marvel series for over a decade commands that but overall that series didn’t seem like 200 million dollars worth of production, especially for being such a short series and kinda limited action

Man they better start getting some young upcoming hungry actors and take lesser known characters and make mini series about them.. one of my fave comic book movies till this day is watchmen. I knew shit about the story and characters , hardly knew any of the actors and yet their execution of that movie was great. I’m pretty sure the marvel library has a bunch of characters or stories that they could use that they could push on that Disney + that could easily be a one season series or multiple season series. Origin stories of villains, vigilantes, certain crews.. every show don’t have to have a happy ending, some could be like raid redemption where it’s more of a hand to hand combat series and not necessarily special powers. It’s not always about big name’s especially now that they pretty much got the stamp of approval from the fans that they kinda willing to watch or give anything a try as long as your execution is good.. I definitely think they could create unfamiliar content and be liked if it’s good

Problem is all the 'experts' are to afraid to say what you said. Who wants that heat? It's not just a gay agenda. It's an agenda straight from the most leftist, out-of-touch, college sociology department on earth(wherever in the west that would be). Imagine if Disney let the far right run it? Same shit would happen. They'd lose billions. Christian messaging every fucking where that no one wants in their stories.

Can't solve a problem if you don't admit what is causing the problem. So they will continue to lose billions. Amazon can afford to do dumb shit. Entertainment is a vanity project for them. But Disney is ruining IPs that help drive kids to their parks. Shit is rolling downhill.

I challenge you to come up with a plan that makes streaming profitable by the end of 2024. Iger still sticking with that timeline. In order to come close, they will have to produce no new content and bump prices up again after this. But how long will people stick around for that shit?

You make too much sense. Marvel and Star Wars have decades worth of characters and stories. Did that matter to Kennedy when she decided to shit on all that history? No. She decided the force was female and basically killed Star Wars. Does that matter to Marvel who is using failed characters from the 2010s to create content for Disney+?

What good is doing what you suggest if they are going to hire writers that hate fans and will change the characters/stories? You are talking about writers who don't even believe in struggle and redemption. Characters just are special because they say so.

Iger already cut spending and will have to reduce it even more to stop bleeding. So no more $200 million projects. Hell, can't even justify 100 million any fucking more. Special effects already gone to shit at Disney thanks in part to that fat pie eater they fired earlier this year.

Also, even if they do what you said and nail content 1000 percent, they are producing it themselves. If Disney produced content THEN licensed it out, they would make money(if content was good like it was until 2019). This is a disaster. Greed is a bitch. Greed AND being out of touch is whatever the fuck is happening to Disney.

Disney+ is a fail. After they finish this Hulu deal, they need to figure shit out and do so fast.

They bout to get that sports betting money through espn bet.. sports gambling about to save Disney lol.. they gonna slowly drop all the promotion for draftkings and fanduel and only push espn bet on their sports channel.. this will be the out of nowhere money stream that Disney will tap into that will bring them major income.. maybe even more than their movies and programming surprisingly. Like I tell people ny alone contributed to 11 figs in sports betting in 2022 by themselves. That’s one state.. right now there’s about 19 other states that do sports betting and about 4-5 that should be getting the thumbs up by Jan/feb 2024.. at first they looked down upon sports betting now they gonna realize why they can’t live without it

I'll admit, that is an interesting take on this. I will also admit that I can't even try to call that one. Why? Because of how Disney has been acting the last few years(well, going back to spending billions on Star Wars and letting Kennedy kill it and she still works there). What would normally be layups for them turn into fucking bricks. Of all the companies on earth, only Disney could find a way to fuck this money up.

They are looking for partners for ESPN and probably think this will help. We all know ESPN is fading as is. But do some people even want to touch gambling? We are about to find out. To be clear, I'm for sports gambling. Love the shit.

Just don't trust the leadership at Disney to handle this shit right. If there is anyway you can think that they fuck this up, it will probably happen.

They are trying to semi strong arm it if I read it right. They not gonna promote the other sports betting companies anymore just their own. Papa johns was on top when they were all on nfl games, etc through obvious and subliminal promotion. ESPN bet will literally be on everything espn meaning nfl, mlb, baseball, hockey, etc. all that free promotion gonna have the average viewer who is curious about sports betting naturally go to the most popular 1. Like fanduel was promoted a lot through all the promotion they got being all over the place even though in certain cases draftkings is better and have bigger payouts . That almighty promotion tends to win in the end.. just know this the biggest promotional brands like apple and McDonald’s collect the most revenue cause they spend the most on promotion. Disney has a lot of things under their umbrella that will easily have espn bet as the number 1 most promoted gambling site. They bout to get that bread on something that’s not in their usual repertoire

Movies, Music and TV are not an issue.

But the rise of Denuvo and the fact that fewer games are getting cracked is why I'm probably headed back to consoles once the 10th generation starts or even before.

I've been on the gaming pirate ship since the end of the PS3 era.
