Did Rapidshare really mess up or make a power move?

Am I the only one that thinks there is more to Rapidshares "changes" than meets the eyes? They were arguably one of if not the Biggest Filesharing Company, so why would they basically just give away customers and content to their competitors by making those "changes"?

Im thinkin maybe it wasnt a mistake but more of a strategy to keep them out of the crosshairs of the powers that be. Think about it, by making the "changes" people have scattered and made sites like Hotfile, fileserve, megashares, sharingmatrix, all the more popular while transferring tons of files to those other sites since RS deleted them from theres....so now all the users and loads of content are distributed amongst the other hosts instead of all at Rapid..making it less of a "threat". Im just speculating here but let me know what yall think.

They have to have lost a lot of customers. Once you lose uploaders and links start to dry up, it's a wrap for downloaders continuing their subscriptions. Most of the porn sites I see now are using Hotfile more since the changes.

some people in other threads talked about them wanting to toss out alot of peoples points and files cause they were takin up too much space and gettin too much of a free ride.

i opened a free account. found some popular files to upload. earned 9 bucks with those links. and got a free month. with that free month i am parlaying that into more cash and some more free premium time.

unless they switch up soon it will be a wrap. in another couple of months the majority of links will have dried up and people will have moved on. hotfiles is paying good right now. they would at a minimum have to pay that.

i can sit on my membership with rs for a year with my current points. (them assholes tricked me out of thousands of points) we will see what happens......

I feel rapidshare had got so cocky, that they became blind. They thought it was only them, they were untouchable, we needed them more than they needed us. We had a contract with a very large company a company that did excellent work, they increased their prices by 24%. We let them go and guess what? we had 4 other big name companies begging us to pick them up. Its just like a job, anybody can be replaced, the show must and will go on. A year ago, i can recall some app forums that had sticky messages to only use rapidshare. It was easy to put up those stickies and i'm sure it was just as easy to replace rapidshare with hotfiles. I could be wrong, but I think its over for rapidshare. A year from now it will be like rapidshare.de, or maybe sendspace, shyt if they don't offer some great deals they'll become yousendit. Even if rapidshare does drop prices and go back to the old rules, they have pissed off so many people and sites I don't think they can recover. They need to change their name and try again.
