...any talk of a 'holdout' will be pure fabrication. Plus, the deal offers incentives that could make the full value worth around $78M. But,they don't need a QB, at this time. There are too many glaring problems that need addressing IMMEDIATELY!!! But the Lions are the Lions, and its the same-o,same-o. Been there, done that. And this time we can't blame it on Matt Millen.

However, there always has to be a word of caution. Maybe they're playing 'white knight' for another team, and, when all is said and done, the may move quietly down the draft roll and be rewarded with a nice 'package' from some team, containing personnel for the line. Wishful thinking? Maybe. But as Yogi allegedly said, "it ain't over, til its over".

Rumor has it that Denver has eyes for USC's QB, Sanchez, and the Jets covets both Bouldin (Arizona), and Quinn (Browns). They plan to provide a package, including their #19 pick. But its going to take one helluva 'package', because we're talking about at least three teams, and if anybody gets those picks its probably going to be Arizona.

If the Lions do stay with their pick, they better get ready to open the checkbook for the FA'a. Like I said...as have many others......the O-line needs help, the D-line needs help, etc, etc. Maybe they should apply for a stimulus package.

Stay tune because the Big day is tomorrow.

UPDATE: 04/25/2009

Sporting News-- Lions head coach, Jim Swartz: "You can go play blackjack at Vegas and play the $5.00 table...play for a couple of hours...make bad decisions...lose $100.00 and have some fun. If you play for $5,000.00 or $10,000.00...make bad decisions, you're walking home. not flying home. Not only is this an opportunity to get a great player, but we need to make sure.". Stafford will be getting 20% more $$$ than last year's top choice, Matt Ryan.

Well, the man knows QB's. Schwartz has to given the 'benefit of the doubt'. Nevertheless, real problems still exist, and MUST be addressed. And I think its fair to assume that efforts will be made at those corrections.

Schwartz probably brings more credibility to the coaching position than any of his predecessors, in recent years. The mere fact that management initiated a pre-draft signing is somewhat encouraging, and a possible signal that the Lions finally mean business...serious business, and not 'business, as usual'.

If this pans out and he is the Lions starter, I hope he has BIG HEART because he is gonna take a lot of abuse behind the Lions O-line.

Schwartz will probably follow the same pattern that the Falcons took with Ryan, and get him some O-line help immediately. Especially at Left tackle!
