Nets' Deron Williams has wish list

Deron Williams' first choice is to stay with the Nets and to build something special in Brooklyn, but if it doesn't work out with his current team, his short list of desirable destinations includes the Mavericks, the Knicks and the Lakers, according to sources close to the situation.

While the league's post-lockout trade buzz has been centered on Chris Paul and Dwight Howard, little attention has been paid to Williams, who like Howard can opt out of his contract and become a free agent after this season.

Williams has publicly stated his desire to re-sign with the Nets, and New Jersey, which views him as a building block for next season's move to Brooklyn, has refused to entertain potential trades involving Williams. Yet both sides know their future together is tied to Dwight Howard.

If the Nets are able to obtain Howard, either through a trade before the March 15 deadline or in free agency this summer, Williams will re-sign. If Howard goes elsewhere, Williams is likely to leave New Jersey, according to the sources.

So if Orlando trades Howard before the deadline to a team he plans to re-sign with, such as the Los Angeles Lakers, the Nets will begin exploring trades for Williams, a source said. The Nets, however, will not consider trading Williams until obtaining Howard is no longer a possibility because the club believes it has a great chance of teaming the two together in Brooklyn, if not this season.

If Howard does go elsewhere, the Nets will be faced with the same dilemma New Orleans faced in moving Chris Paul -- finding a trade partner that Williams will sign with long term because few, if any, teams will be willing to part with major assets for a two-month rental. So Williams will have a large say in where he winds up.

Williams has grown to enjoy living in New York and he is excited about the off-the-court business opportunities the city provides, so if Howard doesn't join him with the Nets, he would love to remain in New York and play for the Knicks, sources said. While no trade talks have taken place between the clubs, the Knicks could theoretically offer either Carmelo Anthony or Amare Stoudemire, thus giving the Nets a superstar to lead them to Brooklyn.

A native of Dallas, Williams is also fond of the idea of playing for the Mavericks. Dallas lacks the pieces to pull off a trade, but if Williams becomes a free agent and the Nets don't get Howard, the Mavericks, who will have enough cap room to offer him a maximum contract, are his likeliest landing spot, a source said.

Then there are the Lakers. Williams likes Los Angeles and lives in nearby San Diego during the offseason. Before the season began, the three teams on his wish list were New Jersey, Dallas and the Los Angeles Clippers, according to sources. But with the Clippers having traded for Paul, playing there is no longer a possibility.

Getting to the Lakers would be difficult for Williams because they will not have cap room in the summer and they lack the promising young prospects the Nets would look for in return.

If the Nets' nightmare scenario comes to pass and they don't get Howard, sources said they will not trade Williams for marginal players merely to avoid losing him for nothing in free agency. If Williams walks, the Nets will be left with enough cap room to sign two high-salaried players, which they view as a better option than eating up their cap space with average talent.

Wow the Utah Jazz saw this coming a mile away. I commend them for being so smart and dealing his ass and actually getting something in return.

the Mavericks, the Knicks and the Lakers
I would love for him to become a Knickerbocker but Im also getting sick of what is becoming of the NBA with stacking up of great players on one team.

Killa will be in here shortly spewing off about how the Nets are the front runners for Dwight because Otis Smith tweeted about it 3 months ago.

that and how the Nets are on the short list of teams Kevin Garnett would accept a trade to.

Naw I'm done with it we will see what happens in March. This isn't news we don't get Dwight he is gone if we do he stays. This is what it is.

Hell I said many times since Brooks started to emerge I'm all for trading Deron and not going after Dwight any more instead of trading Brooks away.

Also God's Son. I don't really follow football ain't you the guy who talks about the Cowboys living in the past with five championships yet after your team fucked up in the last seconds again you love bringing up that ONE RING??????

Guess that didn't matter when they ran into the better team right?

:lol::lol: yeah dog thats me...the Saints hired Steve Spagnoula to be their defensive coordinator replacing that ex-bum of a d-coordinator Gregg Williams that went to St.Louis

I got to up my team just like you up the Nets :yes::yes:

Difference between you and me. People know this. I'm the first to say my team ain't shit.

I put desperate and the Nets together all the time.

What is funny this article says "Deron first choice is to build something with the Nets." "the nets either trade for Dwight or get him in free agency."

If those are the options. Why would he give a list??? He is just going to Dallas if the Nets don't get Howard.

We aren't the Magic or Denver. We can't trade Deron to a contender because.

We don't need nothing they can give us.

Our record ensures us a high pick in a deep draft. We already have cap flexibility. So again Deron isn't getting traded he will have to walk to Dallas.

i wish bspn would stop mentioning the knicks, they have no money for him unless they deal Stat and he's having a down year. so that's out, Deron is either gonna stay a net or be a mav, nothing more to it.

Dwight is gonna be a net unless some incredible shit happens like orlando says fuck it and keeps him or nj somehow fumbles the deal. I don't see either happening, Orlando wants all the nets assets and will wait until after the ASG and the nets are so desperate they give ORL whatever they want.

this is just bspn trying to make a story.

Killa I told you man.... :smh:

I wish you had put that bread on it tho

Told me what?

I'm looking in the thread now. You said no way Dwight would have the Nets as his top choice and I said other wise.

All this article says is what everyone knows. The Nets need Dwight to get Deron. Either in a trade or free agency.

I said they have Dwight. Even the article says if Dwight isn't obtain in a trade or free agency.

Again unless the Lakers give in to Orlando demands. The Nets are still the lead. As Deron said he talks to Dwight all the time. If he knew for sure Dwight wasn't coming he would demand a trade.

The crazy thing is that the conventionally built teams are playing the best (ie Bulls, Sixers, Nuggets) while NYK are under .500 and the Heat are struggling.

I agree and disagree. The knicks have no chance of getting Deron. They would have to trade Melo and they would not do it because Melo is a better player and his talents are suited to be a number 1 scorer. He has to improve in some areas (shot selection and defense) but he is simply a better player and talent thant D-Will. That would leave Stat. No one in the league will trade for Stoudemire with that salary! NO ONE. He has had two microfacture surgeries, two eye surgeries and his CONTRACT IS NOT INSURED!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Knicks were absolutely foolish to give him 100 million. Also, they were silly to let D'Antoni coach him! D'Antoni played him waaaaay to many minutes last year and Stoudemire is struggling to w/ consistency during this compressed schedule. Stoudemire is a top 6 PF and will be better come playoff time but the Knicks could have done better by not signing him!

Lastly, I seriously doubt that Dwight is a net. As i keep saying, the Nets trade does not benefit the Magic. Some team will come to their senses near the deadline and make a better offer. I hope it is not my Bulls.

I keep telling everyone that the Nets are not in the lead. The Nets situation has not changed since the beginning of the season. The Lakers position has not changed since the beginnig of the season. The very very slim chances Atlanta had died with Horford's injury/ No other team has made serious overtures towards the Magic for Dwight.

A team can only be in the lead if there is interest from other teams and there is not. Bynum's improvement makes the deal an almost wash. No way the Lakers give up Bynum along with other peices to get only a marginally better center while having to take on Hedo's contract. The Magic will not make a deal w/o moving Hedo.

I explained in clear detail how the Nets deal would be organizational suicide. It would make more sense for the Magic to take Horford, Johnson and Teague for Howard and Hedo. No team is in the lead because no team has made a good offer.

The only two teams that are interested are Nets and Lakers and nothing has changed since the beginning of the season. Things are not likely to change before March. With that said, why would the Magic lose leverage by waiting until the deadline when nothing is likely to change?!?

I think D-Will and D-Wight takes a lil bit less and go to Dallas and play with Dirk and be a contender for the next 6 years.

I've been saying this Nets dont have Deron convinced yet......Dude is saying get dwight howard or im out.

Deron could end up in dallas as a free agent that his most likely destination.

CP3 is only a clipper for two years folks keep forgetting that as well. He could moving again as well.:yes:

Deron my prediction will be out i dont think dwight is sold on the nets either. Orlando is nice place it really hard to leave unless u like t-mac then u regret it and wish u was back in orlando.:lol:

Only way deron walks is if dwight is a laker.

This is like the melo drama however the way the media sucks off the lakers and knicks is incredible.

DWight requested a trade to the nets and its his first choice. You'd never know it though the way things are reported. last year with melo it was melo wants to be a knick he'll be a knick no matter what. Everyone kept saying no one wants the knicks package, clippers, nets etc have better assets. But where is melo now? No matter how bad the nets assets seem, if he wants to be a net and they present a package trade deadline and howard maintains that as his #1 choice thats where he'll be.

He'll be a Net with deron and then the media will be on them like theyre all on the clippers now..smh its disgusting to watch.

Btw killa why u dont be on ND anymore?? Banned?

nah he'll be a net.. no team is as desperate as the nets. the nets cannot open that arena with no stars not after all the shit they've talked. Proky has put his ownership on the line with this.

Don't ignore the nets desperation: came out high 5'ing during the summer of Lebron thinking Lebron was gonna be a net. Chased Melo even tho he turned them down 4 times. Put together multi-team deals to give ORLANDO more. Now willing to give up a top flight rookie to Orlando as well. Trying to acquire Cousins and or Mayo to give Orlando.

u see how bad the nets r now with Deron... imagine them without him and if they lose Lopez in the summer? I don't care how many top picks they have Avery Johnson sucks at developing youth and is quick to deal them for vets.

the nets will give orlando everything they have and get more to give if need be to get dwight. u can't open in BK NY in a stadium that you promoted the fuck out of with a bad team especially after saying the nets will win a title in 5 yrs like proky has.

I agree other teams can make better offers but dwight doesn't care. Dude wants fame not a ring. He said no to the bulls, no to the lakers(more or less) and picks the NETS? If he was a bull they'd run the nba for the next 5 yrs easily. Dude wants to be famous in a big market. Unless the lakers agree or the clips trade BG he's gonna be a net by the deadline. the nets will be raped in a deal tho but they seem great with that.

The Lakers should trade Gasol and either Ebanks or Caracter for Josh Smith and Kirk. The Lakers need more athleticism and PG help and defense. Smith and Hinrich will provide those needs. Going after Dwight Howard makes no sense for the Lakers when Bynum is playing well and hopefully staying healthy. So basically it comes down to Nets or Mavs for both D Will and Howard.
