"It's crazy how strong mothers are. I have the utmost respect for them," DeMarcus Cousins said after the Kings 107-101 win over the Toronto Raptors.

It's not the usual post-game sound bite you hear from DeMarcus Cousins. But then again, this wasn't the usual post game interview.

Cousins has offered to pay for the funeral of Jaulon "J.J." Clavo, a 16-year-old Grant High student shot and killed in his car Friday night while driving with teammates to their playoff football game.

Cousins made the offer anonymously, but Sacramento City Councilman Rick Jennings let it slip during a vigil for J.J. on Saturday.

So Cousins wasn't surprised to see the press at Sunday's game wanting to ask him about the offer.

But the press there did get a surprise.

After the Kings' emotional come-back win against Toronto, Cousins could be seen ushering J.J.'s sister and mother, Nicole Clavo, into the Kings locker room to receive the team's words of support and condolence.

"There's no words. There's no words that I could possibly say that express the beauty that man has inside of him," Clavo said.

Cousins wasn't in any hurry to talk about his gesture, only saying he has a special relationship with Grant High, and that he understands kids like J.J. Clavo because he once was one.

"It just touched home for me. It wasn't really about me, it was more about the family... more about the kids. So I'd like it to remain that way," Cousins said.
