David "Hayemaker" Haye, 25(23)-1, is the current WBA Heavyweight Champion of the world. He is slated to fight the biggest fight of his life and in the biggest most meaningful heavyweight championship fight in boxing since Lennox Lewis vs. Mike Tyson, when he faces Wladimir Klitschko on July 2nd in Germany.
This fight is so big that it is the biggest money-making fight outside of a Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather fight.
Many have been criticizing the heavyweight division for about the last decade. Complaints have been from everything that these current elite fighters and champions are all boring, fat, lazy and do not speak English.
Unfortunately, historically the masses of casual fans often only cared about who is the heavyweight champion and then maybe if there was an exciting star in the middleweight or welterweight divisions big enough to capture their attention, then that would pretty much be it.
There are numerous reasons why today the current masses of casual fans do not care about boxing because they do not know who the current heavyweight champion is. Or should I say current heavyweight champions with so many different belts now; even hardcore fans need a chart to keep track of all the ABC titles constantly popping up out of the woodwork.
For many generations, the heavyweight champion was often an American who could speak English without any accent and who virtually the whole world looked up to as the strongest, toughest man on the planet.
The last popular heavyweight champion that the masses recognized as the real heavyweight champion of the world was Britain's Lennox Lewis, who was the last undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Ever since then, the division has been a mess and many began to lose significant interest.
The most dominant current heavyweight champion is Wladimir Klitschko, the IBF, IBO, WBO and most importantly the Ring Magazine lineal champion.
David Haye is a standout heavyweight fighter. Not just because he is the current WBA Heavyweight Champion, but I even went as far as breaking down how David Haye is bringing sexy back to the heavyweight division in a previous article.
Many are upset with how Haye has been trash talking his way in promoting the big heavyweight championship fight with Klitschko to the point where they want him to get knocked out on July 2nd.
His psychological warfare, as annoying as it may be, is also rather effective, for we are seeing a totally different Wladimir who appears genuinely pissed off and not able to contain himself around Haye when doing promos and press conferences with him.
This "getting under the skin" tactic by Haye seems to be working rather well but will it enable him to exploit and take full advantage of Klitschko onto a victory in the fight? That remains to be seen.
As bad as many are criticizing Haye for his harsh insults and trash talk, at least he never utilized any racial slurs such as Floyd Mayweather did in his infamous Ustream video attacking Manny Pacquiao.
At least Haye never said he would never lose to a "white boy" as Bernard Hopkins said so infamously of Joe Calzaghe to hype their fight.
Also, at least Haye never grabbed a Ukrainian flag or a German flag and threw it on the ground just as Bernard Hopkins did to Trinidad with the Puerto Rican flag.
If Haye is not going down to those unacceptable levels of trash talk, then why are you guys getting so worked up and sensitive over him successfully hyping the fight and possibly successfully messing with the mind of Wladimir?
There is a reason why this is the biggest fight we have seen in the heavyweight division in over 10 years and that is because of David Haye.
David Haye is what the heavyweight division in boxing has been lacking for years.
Too bad he plans on retiring in October we need him in the sport for another 10 years or so.
