Dark Winds
2022 - Present

"Dark Winds" follows Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee, and Bernadette Manuelito of the Navajo Tribal Police solving mysteries and serving justice as their reservation is besieged by a series of increasingly violent crimes in the 1970s.

Every mystery uncovers old wounds that run deep, not only in their own lives, but in the collective past of the community they serve. Each step closer to the truth forces the officers to confront their own personal demons, family trauma, and evil forces that threaten the uneasy balance of reservation life.

Dark Winds
Season 1

6/10

I had watched the premiere season back in 2022 after all the episodes debut on amc. I had recorded them on my DVR.

It’s an interesting dark, crime thriller series that somewhat taps into some supernatural stuff.

The series does a low key depiction of Native American life in the US in the 1970s without being preachy.

There are just 6 episodes in season one. It’s not really a binge watch series. Recommend taking your time to soak in.

Dark Winds
Season 2
6 Episodes

7/10

I binged these back in 2023 after all the episodes debut on my DVR.

Leaphorn discovered who killed his son. That killer Colton was a ruthless mofo. The hospital scene made him look like a Terminator.

Jeri Ryan debuted, pure comedy seeing her with the oxygen tank and smoking cigarettes.

Bernadette decided to leave for the Border Patrol, I suspect that is going to lead new storylines. She is a cutie for sure when let’s her hair down.

They closed out the main storylines for the first 2 seasons.

Dark Winds
Season 3
9 Episodes

8/10

I binged the new season after all the episodes had debuted in April on my DVR.

The season picks up immediately after the events of season 2 with the primary story around a missing child case.

The 2nd story is with Bernadette starting with the U.S. Border Patrol and stumbling into a large case there.

The 3rd story is with Lt. Leaphorn dealing with the loss of his son in relation to the missing child case.

This series does a fabulous job with casting with new characters for this season. Story was presented perfectly and kept you looking at the screen, no episode this season felt like a “Filler”.

Zahn McClarnon (Lt. Leaphorn) is long overdue for a Emmy/Golden Globe win for this series. His acting skills was fully displayed in Episode 6.

The main plot lines going back to season one are all closed. Season 4 will start new plots.

At the end of Episode 9, they had a preview saying they are currently filming season 4 which is scheduled to debut in 2026.

Looking forward to it.

It's definitely not the show i was expecting. From the name, previews and first episode I was expecting supernatural and dark magic. I know some dislike it cause its slow. But the native community normally has no crime or families police themselves(covered up). So when crime starts happening the police are more baffled and clueless, til the FBI shows up. It's not a fast pace like NCIS, FBI or Chicago PD. They dont have those resources its pretty bare bones follow the clues. Just like the show Longmire.
